The new version of the Indoor Air Quality Standard (GB/T 18883-2022) was approved and issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration (the National Standardization Administration), replacing the GB/T 18883-2002 Indoor Air Quality Standard, and will be implemented from February 1, 2023.


Nearly 20 years have passed since the release of the 2002 edition of the Indoor Air Quality Standard. In what aspects have the new edition of the standard been updated and revised?

 

1、 Terms and definitions

1. Add four terms and definitions of "fine particles", "1-hour average", "8-hour average" and "24-hour average";

2. Delete the term and definition of "standard status";

3. Revise the three terms and definitions of "indoor air quality index", "inhalable particulate matter" and "total volatile organic compounds".

 

2、 Indoor air quality requirements

1. Add some indicators

Three chemical indicators and requirements, including trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene and fine particles, were added, and the indoor air quality indicators changed from 19 to 22.

 

2. Adjust some indicators

Adjust the requirements for five chemical indicators (nitrogen dioxide, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde, benzene, inhalable particulate matter), one biological indicator (total bacterial count) and one radioactive indicator (radon). (Note: Although the limit value of carbon dioxide has not been adjusted, it is required to be revised from "daily average value" to "1h average value", and other indicators are tightened.)

 

3. Modify some indicator names

"Air velocity" is revised to "wind speed"; "Total bacterial count" was revised to "Total bacterial count".

 

4. Other revisions

Revise "summer air conditioning" and "winter heating" in the remarks on temperature, relative humidity and wind speed to "summer" and "winter"; Delete the remarks on the total number of bacteria (according to the instrument); Revise "action level" in radon remarks to "reference level".

 

3、 Index measurement method

1. Revise the technical requirements for point layout, sampling time and frequency, sampling instrument, sampling method, sampling record, sample transportation and storage, 22 pollutant determination methods and sources, quality assurance measures, concentration correction, etc. in the technical guidelines for indoor air quality index detection. (Appendix A);

2. Add recommended sampling method parameters; Add a valid digit retention method for measurement results; New laboratory safety management (Appendix A);

3. Add the appendix for the determination method of five indicators including formaldehyde, benzo [a] pyrene, inhalable particulate matter, fine particulate matter and radon (Appendix B, Appendix E, Appendix F and Appendix H);

4. Revise the appendix of the determination method for five indicators including benzene, toluene, xylene, total volatile organic compounds and total bacterial count (Appendix C, Appendix D, Appendix G);

 

4、 Main technical points

1. Closing time of doors and windows before detection
The closing time of doors and windows is closely related to the indoor air quality. Generally speaking, the longer the closing time of doors and windows, the higher the concentration of indoor pollutants, until the doors and windows (24~48) are closed, the basic equilibrium state is reached.
GB50325-2020 requires that if natural ventilation is adopted, the doors and windows shall be closed for 1 hour, and if centralized ventilation system is adopted, the ventilation system shall operate normally; GB/T18883-2002 requires that doors and windows be closed for 12 hours.

The GB/T 18883-2022 issued this time requires that doors and windows and fresh air system be closed for at least 12 hours. The addition of the word "at least" not only reduces the operation difficulty of the entrusted inspection, but also increases the time for closing doors and windows, and improves the standard requirements. It is really killing two birds with one stone.

 

2. Whether applicable to air conditioning

Indoor temperature is also an important factor affecting indoor air quality. The higher the temperature is, the higher the concentration of indoor pollutants is. Therefore, whether the temperature of the test is close to the daily use temperature is an important prerequisite for the test results to have reference significance.

It is not mentioned in the GB50325-2020 standard. In view of the applicable conditions of the standard (7 days after the completion of the decoration and before the delivery for use), the normal operation mode is not to open; It is not mentioned in GB/T18883-2002, and the normal operation mode is decided by the owner.

The changed GB/T 18883-2022 clearly stipulates that the indoor environment in which air conditioners are used should keep the normal operation of air conditioners.
This regulation makes the test environment as close to the daily use status as possible, and the test results have greater reference significance!

 

3. Preparation of other test environmental conditions

In order to keep close to the daily use status and ensure that the indoor air quality will not endanger the health under the worst conditions, the changed GB/T 18883-2022 standard also specifies other requirements for testing environmental conditions:

※ Turn off the air purification equipment for at least 12 hours before sampling;

※ During sampling, doors and windows, air purification equipment and fresh air system are still closed.
