Boiler air pollutants include soot, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in the boiler flue gas and the blackness of the flue gas. The pollutant emissions mainly come from coal-fired, oil-fired and gas-fired boiler emissions, and also include bagasse, sawdust, rice husk, bark, etc. For fuel-fired boiler emissions, the standard can be implemented with reference to the maximum allowable emission concentration of air pollutants from coal-fired boilers in this national standard.

GB 13271-2014 "Boiler Air Pollutant Emission Standard" is a national standard formulated by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and jointly promulgated by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China to control the emission of boiler pollutants and prevent and control air pollution. This standard specifies the maximum allowable emission concentration limits and smoke blackness limits of particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, mercury and their compounds in boiler flue gas. It is suitable for steam boilers with a single output of 65th and below, hot water boilers of various capacities and organic heat carrier boilers that use coal, oil and gas as fuels; layer-fired furnaces and coal thrower furnaces of various capacities. Boilers using briquette, coal-water slurry, coal gangue, petroleum coke, oil shale, biomass briquette fuel, etc., shall be implemented with reference to the emission control requirements for coal-fired boilers in this standard.
