◉ Organotin
Organotin compounds are metal organic compounds formed by the direct combination of tin and carbon elements. The general formula is RnSnX4-n (n=1-4, R is an alkyl group or an aryl group). There are two types of alkyl tin compounds and aromatic compounds. Its basic structure has a substituted body, a di-substituted body, a tri-substituted body and a tetra-substituted body (referring to the number of R). 10-20% of the tin production is used to synthesize organotin compounds.
◉ Use
The main uses are: used as catalysts, stabilizers (such as dimethyltin, dioctyltin, tetraphenyltin), agricultural pesticides, fungicides (such as dibutyltin, tributyltin, triphenyltin) and daily necessities. Coatings and antifungal agents, etc. In the natural environment, these compounds will rapidly decompose under the action of heat, light, water, oxygen, ozone, etc. After entering the organism, it is easily absorbed in the small intestine or skin, especially the trisubstituted form is most easily absorbed, and is distributed in the liver, kidney and brain. The liver-based microsomal drug-metabolizing enzyme system dealkylates and dearylates very quickly in vivo. The biological half-life of the trisubstituted form is 3-11 days. After dealkylation, it becomes a disubstituted form and a monosubstituted form, which is difficult to pass through the brain-blood checkpoint and remains in the brain for a slightly longer time. Tributyltin and triphenyltin are highly toxic to insects, bacteria, algae, etc. Trimethyltin and triethyltin are highly toxic to mammals. The increase of carbon element reduces its toxicity, so tributyltin and triphenyltin are often used in pesticides and antifouling agents for fishing gear, which increases the release amount to the environment.
◉ Harm
The main damages of organotin compounds to the organism are: the central nervous system will cause leukoedema, the oxidative phosphorylation process in cell energy utilization is blocked, the thymus gland and lymphatic system are inhibited, the cellular immunity is hindered, and the hormone secretion is inhibited causing diabetes. and hyperlipidemia. Toxicity to humans, local irritation to skin, respiratory tract, cornea, and systemic poisoning or even death through skin or brain edema. In France in 1958, there was a 10% mortality rate due to the use of triethyltin-containing agents to treat skin diseases (known as the Sterlinon incident).
◉ Organotin Compounds Testing Standards and Regulations
(1) GB/T18885-2002 Technical Requirements for Ecological Textiles
GB/T18885-2002 technical requirements for ecological textiles include tributyltin (TBT) and dibutyltin (DBT) control requirements.
(2) Reach Annex XVII
Organotin compounds shall not be used in coatings, and shall not be used as pesticides in ships, fishery and aquaculture equipment and any other equipment immersed in water.
From July 1, 2010, trihydrocarbyl organotin (including TBT, TPT) shall not be used in articles, and shall not exceed 0.1% (calculated as tin).
From January 1, 2012, DBT shall not exceed 0.1% (as tin) in articles and mixtures;
The tin content of DOT shall not exceed 0.1% in textiles, gloves, shoes, and child care products that come into contact with the skin.
(3) OEKO-TEX Standard100
The 10 organotin substances specified in OEKO-TEX Standard100 include: monobutyltin (MBT), monomethyltin (MMT), monooctyltin (MOT), dimethyltin (DMT), diphenyltin (DPhT), triphenyltin Cyclohexyltin (TCyHT), trimethyltin (TMT), trioctyltin (TOT), tripropyltin (TPT) and tetrabutyltin (TeBT).
