◉ Certification Introduction
SABS is the abbreviation of South African Bureau of Standards. It is a neutral third-party certification body in South Africa, responsible for system certification and product certification in South Africa. Many products entering the South African market require SABS certification.
◉ Certification Mark
The structure of SABS product certification mark is shown in Figure 1. The basic structure diagram can use the letters below to represent different signs. Figure 2 is the safety certification mark, Figure 3 is the certification mark that meets the requirements of performance, and Figure 4 is the certification mark that meets the environmental requirements.

◉ Certification System
Any manufacturer or importer of electrical products that are included in the mandatory specification needs to obtain the corresponding certificate if they want to sell it. To enter the South African market, electrical products and accessories, electrical equipment and gaming and entertainment equipment must be recognized by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) according to the South African mandatory standard SANS, and the following certificates will be issued.

◉ South African SABS EMC CoC certification (Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC))
SABS: Any non telecommunications electronic product entering the South African market requires an Electromagnetic Compatibility Certificate of Conformity (EMC CoC).
According to the authorization of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has been providing SABS EMC CoC certification since 2017.
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) announced that from November 1, 2022, manufacturers of non communication electronic and electrical equipment can apply for SABS Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Compliance Certificate (CoC) by using laboratory test reports accredited by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
◉ Certification Scope
SABS certification is a voluntary certification and is widely used in chemical products, biological products, fiber products and clothing, mechanical products, safety equipment, electrical products, civil and construction, and automotive products. Among them, the building materials and products involved are: stone products, concrete products, roofing materials, cement, lime, cement mixtures, natural building stones, safety glass, steel structures, wood and wood products, bricks, tiles, paints, Coatings, sealants, etc.
The following five categories of electrical products included in the mandatory specifications are:
Household and similar products: standard "SANS IEC60335";
Information technology products: standard "IEC60950";
Electronic entertainment equipment: standard "SANS IEC60065";
Handheld power tools: standard "SANS IEC60745"; standard "SANS IEC61029";
Wire and cable: standard "VC8075", "VC8077"
In South Africa, SABS implements system certification and product certification systems, but they are all voluntary.
◉ Certification Conditions
(1) The product conforms to a SABS/SANS national standard;
(2) The product has passed the corresponding standard test;
(3) The quality system meets the requirements of ISO 9000 or other specified requirements;
(4) Only products and quality systems that meet the requirements can apply for the use of the SABS logo;
(5) Routine product testing shall be carried out under guidance, and the test results shall be submitted and made public;
(6) Quality system evaluation is conducted at least twice a year, and full content evaluation is required
◉ Certification Process
(1) The manufacturer's completed application form;
(2) If the factory has more than one workshop, a separate application form is required. Each product within the scope of certification is required to be reflected on the application form. In addition, the factory also needs to fill in the application form for the credit of the person in charge, and the person in charge must guarantee the first inspection fee and other certification fees;
(3) After the South African Bureau of Standards receives the application form, an audited quotation will be issued;
(4) On the premise that the quotation is approved, the South African Bureau of Standards will conduct a factory review;
(5) If the above audits are passed, the South African Bureau of Standards will prepare an annual supervision contract;
(6) Two auditors will conduct random audits every year, and the annual supervision and testing fees will be stated in the contract;
(7) Two auditors will take samples back to the laboratory for random inspection;
(8) The samples for subsequent testing, the South African Bureau of Standards will be drawn from the goods of the buyer in South Africa. If the batch of the goods is less than 4 times per year, then insufficient samples will be required to be sent from the factory, and the cost will be charged. will be borne by the factory;
(9) If the test result is unqualified, then the cost of the sample and the cost of retesting will be borne by the factory;
(10) The validity period of the certificate will be three years, unless there are other reasons to cancel the certificate.
