◉ Introduction To Certification
INMETRO is the abbreviation of Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Qualidade e Tecnologia (Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Qualidade e Tecnologia), which is responsible for developing Brazilian national standards.
Brazil's INMETRO certification is divided into two types: mandatory and voluntary. Except for TELECOM telecommunications products (TELECOM is determined by ANATEL), other products listed in the mandatory certification catalog must be printed on the product and packaging after passing the certification. The INMETRO logo and the logo of a third-party agency accredited by INMETRO are affixed to enter the Brazilian market. Most of the testing standards for Brazilian products are based on IEC and ISO standards.
◉ Certification Mark

◉ Product Range
1. Compulsory certification products:
(1) Home appliances in the IEC60335 series (Refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, microwaves, hair dryers, and other household appliances and kitchen appliances)
(2) Medical products in IEC60601 series
(3) Voltage stabilizer in IT class
(4) Inductive electronic ballasts in lamps, that is, electronic ballasts
(5) Electrical accessories (plugs, sockets, converters, wall switches, circuit breakers, current fuses )
(6) Auto parts (glass, wheels, brake fluid, shock absorbers, gasoline engine fuel pumps, horns, pistons, piston rings, piston pins, bearing bushes, bulbs, lead-acid batteries used in automobiles or motorcycles, suspension shock absorber, electric fuel pump, aluminum alloy piston, memory lock and memory ring, car lights, spare parts for auto parts )
(7) Motorcycle bicycle parts (bicycle brakes, motorcycle helmets, bicycle spokes, bicycle tires, bicycle cranks and pedals, bicycle ropes, bicycle frames and front forks, bicycle handlebars, tire inner tubes, bicycle steel rings )
(8) Power tools (plastic sealing machine, desoldering gun, electric hot glue gun, electric hot air gun, electric welding gun, pipe welding tool, plastic foam cutter, electric paint stripper, electric peeler)
2. Voluntary certification products:
For voluntary certified products, the certification mark can only be issued with the certification mark of the certification agency, not INMETRO.
(1) All IT products except voltage stabilizers. Special note: If it is a mobile phone charger, it must be certified by ANATEL
(2) AV products
(3) All lighting products except electronic ballasts and magnetic ballasts
Whether it is compulsory certification or voluntary certification, the certificate must be maintained every year before it is valid. Home appliances, IT, AV, lamps, etc. are generally conducted once a year, and plugs, sockets, converters, and switches are generally conducted twice a year, including sample sampling and factory audits. Brazil currently has no EMC requirements for INMETRO certified products; but has EMC requirements for communication products (TelecommunicatIon).
◉ Certification Category
Taking household appliances as an example, according to Brazil's latest mandatory safety regulation No. 148, household appliances sold to Brazil must be certified by a third-party certification agency recognized by INMETRO and affixed with the INMETRO logo before entering the Brazilian market for sale.
In addition, Brazil has implemented a mandatory energy efficiency labeling program for some household appliances, and the corresponding regulations for the products include both safety and energy efficiency requirements. The purpose of this program is to provide energy efficiency information to consumers, enabling them to evaluate and optimize the energy consumption of household appliances, choose energy-efficient products, and better utilize equipment to save energy costs.

◉ Frequently asked questions
1. Do you need a local representative from Brazil?
yes! If there is no Brazilian branch, a local authorized representative must be designated to handle certification affairs.
2. How to label the certification mark?
The logo should be clearly affixed to the product and packaging, and accompanied by a Portuguese language instruction manual.
3. How long is the validity period of INMETRO certificate?
Depending on the product, different products in Brazil have different certification validity periods, generally divided into 1 year, 3 years, 4 years, and 5 years. It should be noted that both mandatory and voluntary certifications require regular maintenance. The maintenance frequency varies depending on the product, some once a year, and some twice a year.
4. When will I receive INMETRO's examination?
After selecting the certification body and signing the proposal, the certification body will arrange the best date for inspection with the manufacturer. After the initial audit, annual maintenance checks will be conducted regularly during the validity period of the certificate
5. Who needs to undergo inspection: the legal manufacturer or the actual manufacturer?
Actual manufacturer. If there are multiple manufacturing locations, all manufacturing locations must undergo inspection.
