IEC 60598-2-2:2023 has been officially released
IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) issued the fourth edition of IEC 60598-2-2 new standard on January 16, 2023, and was officially included in the IECEE system (International Electrotechnical Commission's Conformity Assessment System for Electrical Equipment and Parts) on January 30, 2023, which means that the latest version of the standard can be used to apply for CB certification in the future.
01. Details of new and old standard versions:
Old standard: IEC 60598-2-2:2011 (Edition 3.0), Luminaires - Part 2-2: Special requirements - Embedded luminaires
New standard: IEC 60598-2-2:2023 (Edition 4.0), Luminaires - Part 2-2: Particular requirements - Recessed luminaires and recessed ventilated luminaires
02. Update summary of new version:
1. The requirements for embedded lamps in IEC 60598-1 are now included in this Part 2-2. It mainly includes marking requirements and temperature rise test method. There is no change from the original standard. It should be noted that the symbols of lamps that are not suitable for direct installation on general flammable surfaces (only suitable for installation on non-flammable surfaces) have slight changes.
2. The requirements for ventilated luminaires in IEC 60598-2-19 have been included in Part 2-2 of this document. The content is the same as that of the previous standard.
3. References to IEC 60598-1 have been updated.
*The new standard integrates the requirements of embedded lamps and embedded ventilated lamps, but the overall structure and test requirements have not changed significantly.
03. Suggestions:
1. Meet the requirements of IEC 60598-1:2010 and IEC 60598-2-2:2011 or IEC 60598-2-19:1981+A2:1997. Embedded luminaires or embedded ventilated luminaires can be directly updated from the old version to the latest standard, without test additions.
2. It is recommended that the buyer or customer directly refer to IEC 60598-2-2:2023 to apply for CB certification.
