New international standard ISO 8124-3:2020 for toy specific element migration+Amd. 1:2023 released

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued a revision to the toy specific element migration standard ISO 8124-3:2020, becoming ISO 8124-3:2020+Amd. 1:2023, with immediate effect.

In March 2023, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) issued a revision to the toy specific element migration standard ISO 8124-3:2020, becoming ISO 8124-3:2020+Amd. 1:2023, with immediate effect.

Compared to the previous version, ISO 8124-3:2020+Amd. 1:2023 includes the following main changes:

 

For modeling clay
(1) Increase the migration limit of boron (B) by 3750 mg/kg;
(2) Modify the migration limit of barium (Ba) from 250 mg/kg to 350 mg/kg.

 

For putty
(1) Increase the migration limit of boron (B) by 3750 mg/kg;
(2) Reduce the migration limit of four elements (Ba, Cd, Cr, Hg) to be consistent with the modeled clay.

 

For crystal slime
(1) Increase the migration limit of boron (B) by 1250 mg/kg;
(2) Reduce the migration limit of 8 elements (Sb, As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, Se) to be consistent with finger paint pigments.

Modeling clay and putty are defined as a variable solid or semi solid mixture that can maintain its shape and form when molded into a certain shape, aiming to express the image of an object through hand manipulation or by squeezing it into a specific shape through toys.


Slime is defined as water-based gel or materials similar to gel, transparent or colored, viscous, slippery, usually non-Newtonian fluid, which is played by hand, kneading and stretching.
