EU ERP update and revision of the "standby" ecological design directive for electronic appliances
In response to the increasingly strict requirements for energy conservation and emission reduction, most electrical equipment continues to consume electricity even when in "off" or "standby" mode. Since 2008, the European Union has formulated the Ecological Design Directive (EC) No 1275/2008 for the minimum energy consumption requirements of "off" or "standby", and revised and updated it in 2013 to cover the directive (EU) No 801/2013 for the "networked standby" requirements of network equipment. At present, the directive covers approximately 500 million pieces of electrical equipment in the entire EU market.
On April 17th, in response to the requirements related to 'standby', the European Commission announced a new directive (EU) 2023/826 to reduce the energy consumption of electrical equipment in 'off' or 'standby' mode; At the same time, the ecological design directive (EC) No 107/2009 for simple set-top boxes was abolished.
The main differences between the limit values of the new ecological design directive and the current version are as follows:

From the table comparison, it can be seen that the new version of the instruction will have more stringent requirements for standby/shutdown power consumption; Manufacturers of household appliances, consumer products, and other electrical equipment need to layout in advance to achieve lower shutdown/standby power consumption and functional optimization to meet the requirements of the new directive.

Mandatory date for new directive: May 9th, 2025
