209 items! The South Korean Ministry of Environment has revised the "Existing Chemical Substances" to focus on these substances

On June 1st, the South Korean Ministry of Environment issued a partial revision regarding existing chemical substances, which mainly targets existing substances whose data protection period has expired.
We all know that when registering a substance, the prerequisite for applying for data protection is that the substance is not included in the global list.

However, in the existing list of substances in South Korea, there are some substances that have been approved for data protection and displayed under class names. What is this?

Substance displayed by class name

In fact, according to the Korean Chemical Registration and Evaluation Act (K-REACH regulation), existing chemical substances refer to substances that meet the following two categories:
The chemical substances circulating in the Korean market before February 2, 1991 were announced after consultation between the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Labor;

After February 2, 1991, hazardous substances were reviewed in accordance with Note 1 of the Hazardous Chemical Substances Management Law and announced by the Minister of Environment.
Note 1: The Hazardous Chemical Substances Management Act was a chemical substance management regulation in South Korea before the K-REACH regulation and has now been abolished.
Among them, the existing substances displayed by class name belong to the second category.

These substances were classified as new substances in South Korea when applying for data protection, and were not officially included in the existing substance list until they completed the harmful review under the Hazardous Chemical Substances Management Law. If the review results confirm that they are not classified as toxic substances, they will be displayed under class names.

According to regulations, starting from July 1, 2020, the South Korean Ministry of Environment is required to review and improve the existing substance list every three years. For substances displayed under class names, the official will also disclose them after the expiration of the data protection period.

The specific modifications made this time are as follows

● For substances whose data protection period has expired, change them back to the original chemical substance name

There are a total of 201 items, including 4 items that have been confirmed to be the same substance. The existing substance numbers (KE numbers) are: 2015-3-6233, 2015-3-6256, 2016-3-7172, and 2017-03-7250, respectively
