According to the provisions of the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China, the evaluation agency organizes experts to review and approve the safety assessment materials for four substances, including peach gum, applying for new food raw materials, six substances, applying for new varieties of food additives, and five substances, including C.I. pigment black 7, applying for new varieties of food related products.

5 new varieties of food related products

 

1、 Expanding the scope of use of additives for food contact materials and products

(1) C.I. pigment black 7; carbon black

1. Background information. This substance is a black powder at room temperature and is insoluble in water. The National Food Safety Standard for the Use of Additives for Food Contact Materials and Products (GB 9685-2016) has approved the use of this substance as an additive in rubber, coatings and coatings, paper and paperboard, ink, and various plastic materials and products such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS). This application expands its scope of use to polyether ether ketone (PEEK) plastic materials and products. The US Food and Drug Administration, the European Commission, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, and the Southern Common Market all allow the use of this substance in plastic materials and products used in food contact.

2. Process necessity. This substance is a commonly used black pigment with good color strength.

 

 

(2) Copolymer of acrylamide with methacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride, itaconic acid, and N, N '- methylene bisacrylamide

1. Background information. This substance is water-soluble and transparent to amber in aqueous solution. The National Health Commission's Announcement No. 1 of 2023 has approved the use of this substance as an additive for paper and cardboard materials and products in contact with food, with a maximum usage of 1%. This application expands its maximum usage to 1.5%. Both the US Food and Drug Administration and the German Federal Risk Assessment Institute allow this substance to be used in paper and cardboard materials and products in contact with food.

2. Process necessity. This substance is used as a dry strength agent for food contact paper and paperboard materials and products, which can enhance the strength of paper, increase the retention performance of fibers and fillers, and improve the drainage performance of pulp.

 

(3) 2- (Vinyloxy) -1,2,3-propanecarboxylic acid tributyl ester

1. Background information. This substance is a colorless viscous liquid at room temperature. GB 9685-2016 has approved the use of this substance as an additive in plastic materials and products. This application extends its scope of use to inks for food contact materials and products. The European Printing Ink Association, the Swiss Federal Food and Drug Administration, and the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture all allow the use of this substance in ink for food contact materials and products.

2. Process necessity. This substance is used as an additive in food contact materials and ink for products, which can enhance the thermoplastic and water resistance properties of the ink.

 

 

2、 New Varieties of Resin for Food Contact Materials and Products

(4) 1,4-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, polymer with sebacic acid and 1,2-ethanediol

1. Background information. This substance is a milky white solid at room temperature and is insoluble in water. Both the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Commission allow this substance to be used in coatings and coatings for food contact.

2. Process necessity. This substance is used as a surface coating for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) membranes and has good heat and chemical resistance.

 

(5) Polymers of methacrylic acid with butyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate, and polymers of hydroquinone with 4,4-methylenebis (2,6-dimethylphenol) and chloromethylepoxyethane with N, N-dimethylethanolamine

1. Background information. This substance is insoluble in water and appears as a milky white liquid when dispersed in water. It is also almost insoluble in most organic solvents. Both the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Commission allow this substance to be used in coatings and coatings for food contact.

2. Process necessity. This substance is the main film-forming substance of coatings, with strong adhesion and corrosion resistance.
