EU proposes to add an exemption for cadmium in Annex III of RoHS

Each member state shall adopt and publish the laws, regulations, and administrative provisions required to comply with this Directive no later than the last day of the sixth month after its entry into force. They should immediately submit the text of these provisions to the committee and apply them from the last day+1 day of the sixth month after the entry into force of this Directive.

Background
On September 29, 2017, April 29, 2018, and April 30, 2018, the European Commission received an exemption application under Article 5 (5) of Directive 2011/65/EU, which will be listed in Annex IV of the Directive, applicable to lead as a heat stabilizer in polyvinyl chloride (PVC), used as a substrate for amperometric, potential, and conductivity electrochemical sensors (the "requested exemption").
The in vitro diagnostic medical equipment used is a Class 8 medical electrical equipment within the scope of Directive 2011/65/EU. The evaluation of the exemption application includes a technical and scientific evaluation study, which concludes that rejecting the exemption will have a negative impact on medical and health equipment.
