In order to further protect human health and safety, protect the environment, and guide and regulate international trade activities, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment jointly released the "Catalogue of Prohibited Import Goods (9th Batch)" and "Catalogue of Prohibited Export Goods (8th Batch)" on December 29, 2023, which contain PFOS substances. This regulation will be officially implemented from January 1, 2024.

The new regulations aim to strengthen control over the circulation of goods in international trade, and it is worth noting that this ban does not apply to laboratory scale research or products used as reference standards to ensure that scientific research is not affected.

According to the newly released catalog, products included in the list will not be able to be legally imported or exported in China. The government department emphasizes that any violation of the ban will face strict legal sanctions. This move marks China's adoption of a more proactive and responsible attitude in the global trade environment, aimed at balancing the needs of economic development and environmental protection.

The implementation of this policy is expected to have a significant impact on enterprises involved in international trade, especially those that rely on specific imported or exported products. Enterprises should adjust their supply chain strategies in a timely manner to adapt to this new legal environment.
