Rhode Island in the United States prohibits intentional addition of perfluorinated and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to products sold or produced starting from January 1, 2027, involving various products such as cookware and textiles.

Rhode Island, USA has officially passed the H 7356/S 2152A Act, which prohibits the intentional addition of perfluorinated and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to products sold or produced starting from January 1, 2027, involving various products such as cookware and textiles. The bill imposes phased control restrictions on PFAS.

Starting from January 1, 2027, anyone is prohibited from manufacturing, selling, selling, or distributing the following products in Rhode Island that contain intentionally added PFAS:

1. Cooking utensils;

2. Youth products;

3. Textiles;

4. Fabric treatment agent;

5. Carpet;

6. Artificial turf;

7. Cosmetics;

8. Ski wax;

9. Menstrual period products.

Starting from January 1, 2029, the Rhode Island bill will further expand the scope of the ban, explicitly prohibiting the manufacturing and circulation of the following products within the state, with the aim of improving consumer recognition of products containing these chemicals:

1. Artificial turf containing intentionally added PFAS;

2. Outdoor clothing under harsh and humid conditions containing intentionally added PFAS, unless accompanied by clear and identifiable disclosure, including the following statement: manufactured by PFAS chemicals.
