Energy efficiency certification is a system for evaluating and certifying the energy consumption of products. Understanding and comprehending the energy efficiency regulations and certification requirements of electronic products in various countries and regions is essential for export enterprises to effectively avoid risks and expand product market sales.
01. Energy Star of the United States:
Energy Star is an energy conservation program led by the US government, primarily aimed at consumer electronics products. Initiated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), it is now joined by the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, China, the European Union and other countries and regions.

(1) Certification nature: Voluntary certification
(2) Scope of application: Includes over 60 types of products, such as household appliances, heating/cooling equipment, electronic products, lighting products, etc. Currently, the most popular products in the Chinese market are lighting products.
02. DLC certification in the United States:
For lighting products, products that Energy Star cannot currently produce can be certified with DLC. DLC (Design Lights Consort) is a joint organization composed of utility companies and regional performance agencies. The DLC certified product catalog is a practical criterion for measuring high-quality, high-efficiency lighting products, with the aim of improving the energy efficiency of commercial building lighting.

(1) Certification nature: Voluntary certification
(2) Scope of application: Includes over 30 types of products, used for solid-state lighting fixtures that have not yet been covered by the Energy Star standard across the United States.
03. DOE certification in the United States:
The US Department of Energy, abbreviated as DOE. DOE has issued DOE certification in accordance with US federal regulations, and related products must meet the requirements of US federal regulations (10 CFR 430): registration and filing must be made on the DOE official website before sales; For external power supplies, the minimum energy efficiency level IV should be achieved and clearly indicated on the product.

△ DOE Lighting Facts label (voluntary):
(1) Certification nature: mandatory certification
(2) Scope of application: Includes 24 types of products, such as chargers with small capacity batteries, power adapters, etc.
(3) This also includes lighting products such as LED bulbs.
04. California CEC Certification:
CEC certification is an electrical energy efficiency regulation implemented by the California Energy Commission in accordance with the law for products exported to California, USA. According to the regulations, electrical products must be tested by qualified laboratories according to corresponding standards and proven to meet the requirements before they can be sold in California, USA.

CEC requires that compliant battery charging systems must be labeled with corresponding symbols, specifically with the letters "BC" in a circle.
(1) Certification nature: mandatory certification
(2) Scope of application: Includes 58 types of products, such as household appliances, power supplies, lighting fixtures, etc.
(3) For lighting products, it is possible to apply for CEC high-efficiency light source certification at the same time. This requirement is detailed in Appendix JA8 of CEC.
05. FTC Energy Efficiency Label in the United States:
According to the regulations of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the United States, LED lighting fixtures need to be labeled with energy labels on their packaging boxes and lamp bodies before being sold in the US market, and disclose to the public the annual power consumption, lifespan, and other information of the product. The FTC energy efficiency label is similar to the aforementioned DOE Lighting Facts Label, but the FTC energy efficiency label is mandatory. In addition, the FTC regulation also requires most home appliance manufacturers to affix an "EnergyGuide" label on their appliances.

(1) Certification nature: mandatory certification
(2) Scope of application: household appliances, lighting products, consumer electronics products, bathroom/plumbing products, etc.
06. European ErP Directive
ErP stands for Energy related Products, which refers to energy related products. To improve the environmental performance of energy consuming products and control ecological pollution. The ErP directive belongs to the energy efficiency certification part of CE certification. If the products put into the European market belong to the CE scope, they should carry the CE mark. There is currently no Level VI requirement (Level 6 energy efficiency standard) in the ErP directive, and reference is made to the European COC Level VI requirement.

(1) Certification nature: mandatory certification
(2) Scope of application: Extended from Energy using Products in the original EuP directive to Energy related Products in the ErP directive.
(3) LED lighting bulb products also need to comply with the requirements of ErP, and the certification rules used are: (EU) No 1194/2012.
07. China Energy Efficiency Labeling:
The China Energy Label is an information label attached to energy consuming products or their smallest packaging, indicating performance indicators such as product energy efficiency levels. At present, China's energy efficiency labeling divides energy efficiency into five levels: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. The smaller the numerical level, the higher the energy efficiency, the better the energy-saving effect, and the more energy-efficient it is.

(1) Certification nature: mandatory certification
(2) Scope of application: Mandatory labeling started with air conditioners and refrigerators, and later expanded to electric fans, rice cookers, induction cookers, washing machines, monitors, printers, etc. Please refer to the "Catalogue of Products Implementing Energy Efficiency Labeling in the People's Republic of China" for details.
08. GEMS certification in Australia:
GEMS certification is a greenhouse and energy minimum standards regulation implemented by the Australian and New Zealand governments from October 1, 2012, covering previous major policy tools such as mandatory minimum energy efficiency standards (MEPS), energy efficiency labels (ERLS), and equipment energy efficiency plans (E3); And expand energy efficiency to the scope of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency. Due to GEMS certification regulations, applicants must be companies registered in Australia/New Zealand, which to some extent creates trade barriers for Chinese products.

(1) Certification nature: mandatory certification
(2) Scope of application: Electronic equipment and products such as electric heating equipment, refrigeration equipment, lamps, speakers, household appliances, power adapters, etc.
(3) The energy efficiency requirements for LED lighting products are not included in this rule. Therefore, Victoria and New South Wales in Australia have respectively established detailed energy efficiency requirements for LED bulbs and lighting fixtures, namely VEET and Ipart. At present, this requirement is also widely applied throughout Australia.
09. Canadian NRCan certification:
The Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is a government department in Canada responsible for overseeing and enforcing energy efficiency regulations. This regulation sets requirements for the minimum energy performance level of various energy consuming products and requires the labeling of energy consuming products before they can be launched. Due to the compatibility between the Canadian Energy Guide and the American Energy Guide, only one approval is required to enter the markets of the United States and Canada. In most cases, products that meet the requirements of Energy Star in the United States also meet the requirements of Natural Resources Canada.

(1) Certification nature: mandatory certification
(2) Scope of application: Includes over 50 different categories of energy consuming products, such as lighting products, household appliances, heating and ventilation equipment, etc.
10. Mexico NOM certification:
The NOM (Normas Oficiales Mexicanas) logo is a mandatory safety symbol in Mexico. Both locally manufactured and imported products in Mexico must comply with relevant NOM standards and product labeling regulations. Mexico only recognizes its own NOM logo and does not recognize the safety logos of the United States and Canada. There are two types of verification units in Mexico that can issue NOM Marks, namely NOM NYCE and NOM ANCE. The NOM logo often appears together with NYCE or ANCE.

(1) Certification nature: mandatory+voluntary
(2) Scope of application: Products subject to mandatory certification are generally electronic and electrical products with voltages exceeding 24V AC or DC, mainly applicable to product safety, energy efficiency and thermal effects, installation, health and agriculture fields.
