The latest access trends in the international market of refrigeration products such as refrigerators and air conditioners

 Air Conditioning

◉ Australia

The Australian Standards Council has released a series of new standards, including:

● AS/NZS 60335.1:2022 Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety Part 1: General requirements (corresponding to IEC version 6.0)

● AS/NZS 3100 Approval and Test Specification - General Requirements for Electrical Equipment


◉ China Taiwan

On July 22, 2022, Taiwan, China issued Announcement No. 1104603050 of 2022, revising the energy efficiency grade labels, minimum energy efficiency and inspection requirements of non-ducted air conditioners in Announcement No. 10404603780 of 2015, including:

● Adjust the standard tolerance of energy consumption. It is clear that the calculation of the actual measured value of the cooling season coefficient of performance (CSPF) needs to be rounded;

● If the model applying for the energy efficiency label is different from the test model listed in the energy efficiency test report, but registered under the same product certificate or approval, the manufacturer shall submit the energy efficiency compliance statement to ensure that the products registered under the energy efficiency label comply with the Test model production; specify in the energy efficiency test report and take responsibility for the content of its declaration;

● When manufacturers display or sell non-ducted air conditioners in stores, manufacturers can display energy efficiency ratings through means such as bulletin boards;

● Revise the energy efficiency class table.


◉ Malaysia

The Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE) has issued an enforcement approach to the import and export of HCFC-based air-conditioning equipment.

From December 1, 2022, for the products listed in Appendix I below, a letter of approval from the Ministry of Environment is required before submitting a COA application. Appendix 1 contains the following products:

Air conditioner (N30):

● Split type air conditioner N30.01

● Portable air conditioner N30.02

● Ceiling air conditioner N30.03


◉ Brazil

The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) issued a decree on June 3 announcing revisions to the conformity assessment requirements for air conditioners aimed at incorporating built-in air conditioners and other air conditioners with a cooling capacity greater than or equal to 36,000 Btu/h The implementation of the new label for the device has been delayed by 12 months. The amendments are effective from July 1.

 

Refrigerator

◉ Jamaica

Jamaica On June 27, 2022, the Jamaica Bureau of Standards announced the adoption of the Jamaica Draft Standard Specification for Energy Labelling - Refrigeration Equipment - Requirements, DJS CRS 57:2018/Amd 1. The deadline for comments is August 24, 2022.


◉ Australia

The Australian Standards Commission issued some amendments to the standards:

AS/NZS 60335.2.24:2021 Amendment 1:2022 - Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety, Part 2.24: Particular requirements for refrigeration appliances, ice cream appliances and ice makers.


◉ USA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that after August 6, 2022, all ENERGY STAR certifying agencies will no longer be required to issue certificates under the ENERGY STAR 4th Edition rules for commercial refrigerators and freezers, and must comply with the 5th Edition rules. Certification of this product category; at the same time, before December 21, 2022, the ENERGY STAR certification agency can make administrative modifications to the existing ENERGY STAR certificates, such as changing the model name.

From July 13, 2022 (inclusive), refrigerators with versions of applicable safety standards lower than those listed above will no longer be accepted for new or renewed registrations. However, products that have been registered according to the old standard before July 12, 2022 can continue to be used until the existing CoC certificate expires.

Compared with the original product requirements of the new version of commercial refrigerators and freezers, the calculation formula of the energy efficiency requirement limit (maximum daily power consumption) of different types of refrigerators and freezers has been revised, making the limit more stringent.


◉ Malaysia

The Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE) has issued an enforcement measure for the import and export of HCFC-based refrigeration appliances.
