Energy Efficiency Testing and Access Requirements for Household Refrigerators and Freezers in the Australian Market

Chinese home appliance exports are growing, and the Australian market is popular. Household refrigerators and freezers entering Australia must meet the E3 energy efficiency standards and be labeled with energy efficiency labels. There are multiple testing standards, and some products are exempt from inspection. The certification process includes application, testing, and registration of labels.
In recent years, China's home appliance exports have achieved rapid growth, not only increasing in quantity but also significantly improving in quality. Chinese home appliance enterprises are widely recognized in the international market for their high cost-effectiveness and application of new technologies. As a large overseas market, the Australian market has become a destination for many companies to set sail.
For the majority of household refrigerator and freezer companies, energy efficiency testing is crucial before entering the Australian and New Zealand markets. Household refrigerators and freezers sold in the Australian and New Zealand markets must meet the minimum energy efficiency standards and be labeled with energy efficiency labels if they are within the mandatory regulatory requirements. This is also a basic requirement for exporting household refrigerators and freezers to the Australian market.
Export products need to meet the Australian Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) program, which is an initiative of the Australian government, states and territories, and the New Zealand government aimed at improving the energy efficiency of appliances and equipment. The purpose of the E3 program is to provide a single, comprehensive method for energy efficiency standards and labeling, which specifies the minimum energy efficiency level that electrical appliances must meet before sale.

Test standard: AS/NZS IEC 62552.1, AS/NZS IEC 62552.2, AS/NZS IEC 62552.3, AS/NZS 4474
Test voltage: 230V, 50 Hz
Main testing items: storage temperature, cooling test, temperature deviation during defrosting and recovery period, power consumption test, volume measurement

Household refrigeration appliances with steam compressors that can be connected to mains power.
Products within the scope of Part 1 of the testing standards.
Suitable for household refrigeration appliances used in commercial environments.
The following products are not within the mandatory scope
Products with a total capacity of less than 80L and specifically designed for use in caravans and other vehicles.
Horizontal portable products or vertical portable products with a total volume of less than 80L.
Products with a total volume of less than 30L and a secondary cooling function. Like a hot and cold water dispenser.
Cannot choose products connected to 230V or 400V, 50Hz mains power.
Products cooled using technologies other than vapor compression cycles.
Wine storage equipment.
Independent ice maker.
