1、Gulf Compliance Mark (G-Mark), also known as GCC certification

1. What is G-Mark?

The G-Mark (Gulf Conformity Mark) is an authoritative certification that products comply with the strict quality and safety standards of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and is a mandatory requirement. To sell specific products in the markets of GSO member countries, a valid G-Mark certificate must be held.

The member states of GSO include the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Republic of Yemen.

Certification validity period: 3 years (re application required upon expiration).

2. Importance of G-Mark

Obtaining G-Mark certification requires a rigorous testing and inspection process to confirm that the product meets standard requirements, including electrical safety, mechanical safety, and environmental performance.

3. Which products are eligible for G-Mark certification?

According to the Low Voltage Technical Regulations of the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO), 13 categories of household electrical equipment and appliances listed in TC143307-01 must undergo mandatory certification, including:

2、 Saudi Quality Mark (SQM)

1. What is SQM?

The Saudi Quality Mark (SQM) is a product quality mark certification implemented by the Saudi Bureau of Standards (SASO). Products within its scope undergo qualification assessment by third-party certification bodies authorized by SASO, obtain certificates issued by SASO, and affix a mark on the product to indicate that it meets the requirements of relevant technical regulations and standards issued by SASO.

SASO has implemented mandatory SOM certification requirements for certain high-risk product categories. Products within the mandatory certification scope must complete certification and affix a logo before they can be sold in the local market.

Other products within the scope of non mandatory certification can also apply for certification on a voluntary basis. We encourage products within the scope of non mandatory certification with long-term export demand to apply for certification, in order to quickly enter the Saudi market and increase the confidence and recognition of government regulatory agencies, buyers, and consumers in product quality.

Certification validity period: 3 years, requiring annual audit.

Note: Before submitting the SQM application, plugs, sockets, converters, and extension cord components also need to obtain the G-Mark certification certificate.

Products with SQM logo affixed indicate that they have passed the certification mode of "testing+factory review". According to the requirements of Saudi technical regulations and standards, they have undergone comprehensive evaluations in terms of safety, energy efficiency, environmental protection, etc., which helps to gain the trust of local consumers and governments and improve the competitiveness of the products in the Saudi market.

In addition, certified products can directly obtain customs clearance certificates through the SABER system, without the need for third-party agencies to intervene and review, greatly improving the convenience of export customs clearance for enterprises.

3、 Saber platform

1. What is Saber?

Saber is an online certification management platform launched by the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO), aimed at assisting companies in completing product registration, certificate issuance, and compliance COC certificate application processes to improve customs clearance efficiency for imported goods from Saudi Arabia.

At present, the Saber customs clearance system has achieved data interconnection with the Saudi FASAH customs system. This system evolved from the early SASO certification system, and since the phased implementation of the Saudi Technical Regulation (TR) in January 2019, the transition between the old and new systems was successfully completed in February 2020. According to current regulations, all importers of regulated goods are required to complete product registration through the Saber platform and obtain compliance certification documents after review before smooth customs clearance can be achieved.

In addition, starting from January 1, 2025, SASO announced that all goods exported to Saudi Arabia must submit an application through the SABER system and obtain PC and SC certificates.

2. Saber control scope

The Saudi Saber customs clearance system classifies products entering Saudi Arabia into three categories based on their level of risk: high, medium, and low, with different certification methods used for each category. The submission of product name and customs code can be found on Saber's official website.

SABER certification covers 22 major categories of products, including but not limited to electronic and electrical products and lighting fixtures, kitchenware and general tableware, gas products, and other products.

3. Saber authentication mode

1) Unregulated products: This type of product can be shipped simply by applying for a self declaration certificate and a SC certificate;

2) Controlled products: require application for PCOC certificate+SC certificate for customs clearance;

3) Imported non-commercial products: such as goods imported by individuals for construction or restoration purposes, raw material products or factory equipment used in unprocessed goods production lines, and goods provided to government agencies under procurement contracts, can apply for an import product (non-commercial product) shipping certificate without the need for PCOC and SCOC.

4. Saber certificate type

PCOC certificate: Prior application is required, valid for 1 year, to prove that the product complies with Saudi technical standards. Technical documents, test reports, and other materials must be submitted.

SC certificate: Each batch of goods is applied for separately and can only be issued before arrival at the port to ensure that the batch is consistent with the PC certificate, which is necessary for customs clearance.
