Standard Interpretation | New UL 60335-2-8 "Special Requirements for Electric Shavers, Scissors, and Similar Devices"

The new version of UL 60335-2-8, "Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances Part 2-8: Special Requirements for Electric Shavers, Scissors, and Similar Appliances," 7th edition, will be enforced on July 1, 2028.

Recently, UL 60335-2-8 "Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances Part 2-8: Special Requirements for Electric Shavers, Scissors, and Similar Appliances" released its 7th edition of the standard, and CSA 60335-2-8 also released a new version of the standard. The new standards of the two countries are consistent in content, making it easier for manufacturers to sell their products to both the US and Canadian markets simultaneously. This standard applies to products such as razors, hair clippers, and animal hair clippers.

The 7th edition of UL 60335-2-8 standard will be enforced on July 1, 2028, and relevant UL certificates or reports obtained before this date do not need to update the standard; After July 1, 2028, if there are engineering changes to old products, they must comply with the requirements of the new standard. This regulation greatly facilitates production enterprises and eliminates concerns about mandatory updates to existing products.

The main revisions of UL 60335-2-8 standard from 6th to 7th editions are as follows:
