Three national standards for food contact container safety were released!

Recently, the General Administration of Market Supervision approved the release of three national standards in the field of food contact container safety.

Recently, the General Administration of Market Supervision held a special press conference with the theme of "improving the quality of life by standards", releasing a number of new national standards, mainly involving food, consumer goods, industrial products, safe production, cross-border e-commerce and other fields.

In the field of food contact container safety, the General Administration of Market Supervision (Standards Committee) has approved and issued three national standards:
GB/T 41711-2022 Determination of Acid, Sulfur and Salt Resistance of Inner Wall Coatings of Food Metal Containers;
GB/T 41,898-2022 Determination of Corrosion Resistance and Density of Inner Wall Coatings of Food Metal Containers Electrochemical Method;
GB/T 41899-2022 General Rules for Quality of Tin or Chromium Coated Steel Sheets for Food Containers.

Metal packaging has good mechanical performance, is not easy to be damaged, and is convenient for transportation, storage and carrying; Strong barrier, can isolate gas and light, can effectively delay the deterioration of the inner package; Good ductility, easy to achieve high-precision automatic production. Therefore, food metal containers have become one of the main types of food packaging, and are widely used in canned food, alcohol and beverage packaging. It is understood that at present, the output value of China's food metal container industry has exceeded 100 billion.

At the same time, metal packaging also has the advantages of easy recycling and low carbon emissions in the production process. Under the dual carbon strategy, in order to save energy and reduce emissions, the position of metal packaging in the field of food packaging will be greatly improved, and its market scale will also expand steadily. The formulation and revision of relevant standards is conducive to standardizing the production of metal packaging, ensuring its product quality, promoting the high-quality development of the industry, and maintaining the quality and safety of metal packaging food.

The General Rules for the Quality of Tin or Chromium Coated Steel Sheets for Food Containers provides a general quality standard for tin (or chromium) coated steel sheets, the basic material of metal containers, and solves the problem that the original industry standard cannot meet the development requirements of the current food industry. It can improve the quality control level of the industry and ensure the healthy and orderly development of tin or chromium coated steel sheets for food containers and downstream can and lid manufacturing enterprises.

The Determination of Acid Resistance, Sulfur Resistance and Salt Resistance of Inner Wall Coatings of Food Metal Containers and the Determination of Corrosion Resistance and Density of Inner Wall Coatings of Food Metal Containers by Electrochemical Method provide new resistance and corrosion test methods for food metal containers. Resistance test and corrosion test are the two most critical application evaluation indicators to ensure the quality of food metal containers. There is no targeted standard before. The release and implementation of these two national standards filled the gaps in relevant standards and further guaranteed the quality of food metal containers.

This year, the General Administration of Market Supervision (the Standards Committee) has approved the release of 212 standards related to food consumer goods, including 23 national standards for food and related products in the food sector. The State Administration of Market Supervision said that the next step will be to constantly improve the construction of the food metal container standard system in combination with the development of domestic and foreign industries, so as to meet consumers' high requirements for the quality of food metal containers and promote the international and market-oriented development of the food metal container industry.
