Mandatory implementation on October 1, 2025! GB 36893-2024 "Energy Efficiency Limits and Grades for Air Purifiers"

Time:

2025-09-22

GB 36893-2024 "Energy Efficiency Limits and Grades for Air Purifiers" will be officially implemented on October 1, 2025, replacing the old version GB 36893-2018. Air purifier products produced after October 1, 2025 must pass the new energy efficiency registration and use the new energy efficiency label in order to enter the domestic market.

According to the National Standard Announcement No. 23 of 2024 issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Administration, GB 36893-2024 "Energy Efficiency Limits and Grades for Air Purifiers" will be officially implemented on October 1, 2025, replacing the old version GB 36893-2018. This means that air purifier products produced after October 1, 2025 must pass the new energy efficiency registration and use the new energy efficiency label in order to enter the domestic market

Main revision content

01. Scope of Application Definition

This standard is applicable to specific voltage ranges (single-phase rated voltage greater than 5V and not exceeding 250V, other rated voltages not exceeding 480V), air purifiers with the function of removing particulate matter and gaseous pollutants, as well as humidification purifiers and purification fans with independent air purification function modes. At the same time, it is explicitly stipulated that it does not apply to components and modules with air purification functions, wearable air purifiers, air duct purification devices, etc., as well as air purifiers designed specifically for industrial, medical, and vehicle use, and products used in special environments with corrosive or explosive gases. This definition precisely delineates the applicable boundaries of the standard, ensuring its pertinence and effectiveness.

02. Terminology and Definition Update

Add new terms such as "air purification function mode", "shutdown mode", "standby mode", "network mode", modify existing terms such as "rated state", "energy efficiency ratio", "purification input power", "standby power", "energy efficiency limit value", and delete definitions related to "clean air volume of particulate matter" and "purification efficiency of gaseous pollutants". These adjustments make the definition of terms clearer and more accurate, in line with the current development status and practical application scenarios of the industry, and help unify industry cognition and avoid conceptual confusion. For example, the detailed definitions of "standby mode" and "network mode" clarify the functions and states of air purifiers in different modes, providing a clear basis for subsequent energy efficiency testing and standard implementation.

03. Energy Efficiency Grades and Technical Requirements

1) Energy efficiency level classification: Air purifiers are divided into three energy efficiency levels, with level 1 having the highest energy efficiency. The energy efficiency ratio and standby power requirements for Class I products (with only air purification function mode and no other main functions) and Class II products (humidification purifiers and purification fans with independent air purification function mode) are different. At the same time, it is stipulated that products with one purification ability shall be determined according to the energy efficiency level of the corresponding ability, while products with two purification abilities shall be determined according to the lower energy efficiency level, and the standby power of multiple standby working modes of the product shall comply with the corresponding regulations. This classification method fully considers the characteristics and practical application needs of different types of products, which helps guide enterprises to produce high-efficiency products and promote market survival of the fittest.

The 2024 version of the standard has adjusted the product classification from the original classification based on product purification ability to classification based on the main functions of the product. In terms of energy efficiency grading requirements, the 2024 version of the standard has added grading requirements for the energy efficiency ratio of gaseous pollutants, as well as requirements for standby power in shutdown mode, standby mode, and network mode. The energy efficiency grading requirements of the 2024 version of the standard are generally stricter compared to the 2018 version, which will be conducive to promoting product quality upgrades and the healthy development of the industry.

2. Technical requirements: The energy efficiency limit of air purifiers is level 3 of the energy efficiency grade, which means that air purifier products sold in the market must meet the level 3 energy efficiency standard in order to enter the market. Products below this standard will be eliminated, thereby promoting the overall energy efficiency level of the industry.

3. Requirements for nominal and measured values: A new regulation has been added that the energy efficiency ratio of air purifiers should not be lower than 90% of the nominal value, and the energy efficiency level should not be lower than the nominal level. This requirement aims to prevent false advertising by enterprises, safeguard consumers' right to know and legitimate rights and interests, encourage enterprises to truthfully label product energy efficiency information, and improve market transparency.

Compliance recommendations

The revision of GB 36893-2024 standard is not only an update of technical indicators, but also a strong guidance for the sustainable development of the industry. Enterprises need to accelerate technological iteration to adapt to stricter energy efficiency requirements.
