On February 2, 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recommended the inclusion of four substances of high concern (SVHCs) in the REACH authorization list. Enterprises are required to submit usage data and opinions before May 2, 2026. Once listed, companies must apply for authorization if they want to continue using these substances.

EU REACH Appendix XIV - List of Authorized Substances

The EU REACH Appendix XIV, which is the list of authorized substances, faces two crucial deadlines when an item is included in the list:

Late Application Date (LAD): The final deadline for companies to submit authorization applications.

Sunset Date (SD): After this date, all unauthorized use will be completely prohibited.

The authorization requirements of the EU REACH regulation mainly apply to the placement and use of substances on the market within the EU. Therefore, for EU imported products, authorization requirements only apply to substances and mixtures. Any authorized substance contained in EU imported goods, if added outside the EU, is not subject to authorization requirements. According to REACH regulations, the authorization list should be updated at least once every two years. The REACH regulation designates SVHC as a candidate substance for authorization (REACH Annex XIV).
