Brazil's INMETRO Refrigerator Energy Efficiency Labeling Regulations, Mandatory Implementation in 2026
Time:
2026-04-10
The new regulations for Brazil's National Energy Efficiency Label (ENCE) for refrigerators will be enforced on January 1, 2026.
According to the Brazilian National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) Regulations No. 332/2021 and No. 736/2024, the new rules for the National Energy Efficiency Label (ENCE) of Brazilian refrigerators will be enforced on January 1, 2026. The updated energy efficiency standards are more stringent, and consumers are reminded to pay special attention to energy efficiency levels and monthly electricity consumption when purchasing.

Core Changes
01
Energy efficiency level adjustment
From January 1, 2026 to December 30, 2030:
Cancel the original A+, A++, and A++subdivision of energy efficiency levels, and simplify them into three levels of energy efficiency levels: A, B, and C. The minimum Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) must reach 90.0%.
| level | Maximum efficiency ratio (all types) |
| A | 67% |
| B | 83% |
| C | 90% |
Starting from December 31, 2030:
It is expected that the second round of energy efficiency levels will be launched from December 31, 2030, with the levels expanded to six levels: A, B, C, D, E, and F.
| level | Maximum efficiency ratio (all types) |
| A | 67% |
| B | 83% |
| C | 100% |
| D | 116% |
| E | 132% |
| F | >132% |
Note: The maximum energy consumption level for Class F is defined as the second phase in CGIEE Resolution 02/2023, until the agency issues a new regulatory law.
02
Technical standard update
The new regulations adopt the latest international technical standards: IEC 62552-1:2015+A1:2020, IEC 62552-2:2015+A1:2020, IEC 62552-3:2015+A1:2020, etc. The testing items include power consumption, volume, storage temperature, etc. This standard is used for both grading testing and energy consumption measurement. This update has made the indicators more stringent and strengthened the alignment of Brazilian regulations with international standards.
03
Identification requirements updated
Inmetro recommends that consumers pay special attention to the energy efficiency rating and monthly electricity consumption (in kilowatt hours (kWh)) on the label, which helps consumers estimate the impact of the device on electricity bills and compare the performance of similar products.
The label also contains other relevant important information, such as the capacity of the refrigeration and freezing compartments of the two door refrigerator, as well as the minimum temperature that the equipment can reach. These data help consumers choose the refrigerator that best suits their needs.
Compliance recommendations
In the retail market, models with old labels can still be sold for products produced before December 31, 2025. This type of product can be sold by merchants until December 31, 2026; Although Inmetro expects the market to fully switch to the new label before the deadline.
