On June 1, 2026, four new national standards for household refrigeration appliances were officially implemented. Household refrigeration appliance enterprises should accelerate product technology upgrades, eliminate outdated production capacity, focus on high value-added and cost-effective product research and development, and ensure that products meet the requirements of the new standards.

This document specifies the requirements for materials, design, manufacturing, and performance of household and similar refrigeration appliances, inspection rules, labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage, describes corresponding test methods, and provides product classification and model naming for technical specifications.
The new product standard GB/T 8059-2025 has comprehensively optimized and upgraded key indicators such as safety performance, energy efficiency level, usage function, and environmental protection requirements of refrigeration appliances based on the original standard. Suitable for the research, design, production, and inspection of household and similar refrigeration appliances assembled by factories and cooled internally using natural or forced air convection. Whether it is traditional refrigerators, freezers, or emerging embedded refrigeration appliances, small mini refrigerators and other products, they are all included in the scope of standard specifications, covering a more comprehensive range of scenarios.
This revision mainly makes three optimizations:
One is to refine the types of product compartments to facilitate consumer selection. According to the main compartment types of refrigeration appliances, products are divided into non frozen food storage boxes, frozen and non frozen combination boxes, frozen food storage boxes or freezers, and wine storage cabinets, which help consumers accurately screen suitable products according to their actual storage purposes.
The second is to upgrade cryogenic preservation and intelligent response, balancing quality and energy efficiency. In response to consumers' demand for preservation quality of meat and aquatic products, a new definition of "deep freezing room" has been added, and its performance assessment requirements, product labeling, and instruction specifications have been clarified, so that consumers can clearly identify and choose products with deep freezing preservation function. In response to the energy management needs during peak and valley periods of electricity consumption, a new assessment requirement for "smart grid signal response function" has been added to ensure that refrigeration appliances can intelligently adjust their operating status after receiving grid signals, achieving the goal of energy conservation and environmental protection.
The third is to improve the volume testing and assessment, leading the upgrading of product structure. Based on the current development and changes in the internal structure of refrigeration appliances, further refine the testing methods for appliance volume, and increase the technical indicator of "volume utilization rate" to guide enterprises to optimize product spatial structure design and promote innovation in insulation technology.
Fourthly, stricter technical requirements are required to promote product quality upgrades. For example, the new product standard has added an assessment of refrigerant leakage in refrigeration systems, clarifying that heat exchangers should comply with the requirements of GB/T 39557-2020 "Household Refrigerator Heat Exchanger" standard. The requirements for heat exchangers include comprehensive performance assessment from appearance compliance to heat exchanger raw materials, processing accuracy, system matching, durability, etc. For example, the new product standard will increase the durability testing of frozen food storage room doors (rooms with characteristic temperatures ≤ -6 ℃) from 30000 times to 50000 times, adapting to modern lifestyle needs while making products more durable. In addition, the new product standards have added relevant requirements for food contact materials.

Three supporting testing method standards are in line with international standards, which clarify unified technical requirements, testing and evaluation methods for core indicators of consumer concern such as storage temperature, freezing capacity, power consumption, and volume of refrigeration appliances, achieving full coverage of "general requirements+special indicators".
GB/T 46281.1-2025 "General Requirements" specifies the terminology and definitions, classification, labeling, testing instruments and equipment, general testing conditions, and distribution requirements for measuring the average air temperature of refrigeration appliances.
GB/T 46281.2-2025 "Performance Requirements" has developed precise testing procedures and evaluation standards for core performance indicators such as refrigeration speed, insulation effect, and temperature control accuracy; Other refrigeration performance testing methods besides volume and power consumption are specified, mainly including storage temperature, freezing capacity, cooling capacity, automatic ice making capacity, cooling, load temperature rise, condensation and other test items.
GB/T 46281.3-2025 "Electricity Consumption and Volume" specifies the test methods for volume and electricity consumption, optimizes the calculation rules for effective volume, and makes product energy consumption and volume labeling more realistic and valuable for reference.
