EU adopts inclusion of chlorpyrifos in POPs regulations

On June 30, 2026, the European Commission adopted a revised draft to include chlorpyrifos in the EU POPs regulation.

On June 30, 2026, the European Commission adopted a revised draft to include Chlorpyrifos in Annex I, Part A of the EU POPs Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. The revised regulations will be officially published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJ) and will come into effect on the 20th day after publication, and will be directly applicable in all member states at that time.

Specific exemptions for intermediate use or other specifications

For the purposes of this Article, point (b) of paragraph 1 of Article 4 shall apply where chlorpyrifos is present in substances, mixtures or articles in a concentration equal to or below 0.01 mg/kg (0.000001 % by weight).

Scope of application: The control objects cover all products that may contain chlorpyrifos, including but not limited to textiles, plastics, rubber, coatings, wood treatment products, building materials, and consumer goods.
