Implemented on August 1st, 2026! GB 44246-2024 Mandatory Safety Upgrade for Home Appliances, Electric Sports Equipment, and Electric Toys

On August 1, 2026, the mandatory national standard GB 44246-2024 "Safety Technical Specification for Electrical Parts and Electrical Toys of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances, Sports Goods" was officially implemented. For the first time, the three major product standard systems of GB/T 4706 series (household appliances), GB 31187 (sports electrical), and GB/T 19865 (electric toys) have been integrated, establishing comprehensive safety requirements for household appliances, sports equipment, and electric toy products, covering the entire life cycle of safety control from design, production, marketing, installation, use, and after-sales maintenance, with a focus on preventing high-frequency safety risks such as electric shock, fire, burns, mechanical injuries, and battery explosions.

Household appliances, electric sports equipment, and electric toys are widely used in households and public places, and product safety has always been a social concern. In order to further improve product safety and reliability, the mandatory national standard GB 44246-2024 integrates for the first time the three major product standard systems of GB/T 4706 series (home appliances), GB 31187 (sports electrical), and GB/T 19865 (electric toys), establishing comprehensive safety requirements for household appliances, sports equipment, and electric toy products, covering the entire life cycle safety control from design, production, marketing, installation, use, and after-sales maintenance, with a focus on preventing high-frequency safety risks such as electric shock, fire, burns, mechanical injuries, and battery explosions.

Scope of Products Regulated by GB 44246-2024

This standard covers three major categories of products widely used in households and public places: home appliances, sports equipment, and electric toys.

Home appliances

Definition of "Household and Similar Electrical Appliances": Electrical appliances used by non professionals in households, residences, and similar places (such as shops, light industry, and farms), with a rated voltage of no more than 250V for single-phase AC power supply and no more than 480V for other appliances.

Product example: Full range of household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, small appliances, heaters, water purifiers, and other household appliances.

Electric sports equipment

The electrical part of sports equipment "is defined as the electrical part of products used in sports education, competitive sports, and physical exercise, with a single-phase rated voltage not exceeding 250V and other rated voltages not exceeding 480V.

Product examples: Electric sports and fitness equipment such as treadmills, spinning bikes, fascia guns, and electric rowing machines.

Electric toy

Definition of "electric toy": a product designed or intended for children under the age of 14 to play with, with at least one function requiring the use of electricity.

Product examples: Children's remote-controlled cars, audio-visual toys, rechargeable smart toys, electric building blocks, transformer toys, power toys, and other electrified children's toy products.

Main content of GB 44246-2024 standard

This document defines the terms and definitions related to the electrical components of household and similar appliances, sports equipment, and electric toys. It specifies overall requirements, product safety requirements, labeling and instruction requirements, as well as installation, maintenance, and repair requirements for the electrical components of household and similar appliances, sports equipment, and describes corresponding verification methods.

One is to clarify the safety requirements of relevant products, specifying the requirements for electrical safety, thermal safety, mechanical safety, durability, structure, components, rust prevention, radiation, toxicity, and similar hazards of household appliances, sports equipment, and electric toys.

Secondly, it clarifies the requirements for installation, maintenance, and repair, and specifies the safety requirements that household appliances and sports equipment should follow throughout their entire lifecycle.

The third is to clarify the requirements for signs and instructions, stating that warnings or signs for household appliances, sports equipment, and electric toys should be located in a prominent position, clear, distinguishable, and easy to see, and under normal conditions, not easily fade or fall off.

GB 44246-2024 Product Safety Conformity Verification

The new standard has passed the product safety compliance verification standard in Appendix A, and the old national standards related to household appliances and electric toys will be converted into recommended standards. The new standard GB 44246-2024 will become a mandatory safety bottom line that these categories must comply with, and the market access threshold will be significantly raised.

In Appendix A, there are a total of 97 standards corresponding to the verification of the compliance of different types of household appliances with safety requirements, all of which are GB/T 4706 series standards (note! The new GB/T 4706 series standards for household appliances CCC certification will be officially implemented from August 1, 2026). In general, GB/T 4706.1 "Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - Part 1: General requirements" is used in conjunction with the corresponding special requirements in 96 other standards. The special requirements include supplements and modifications to the corresponding clauses in the general requirements to provide requirements for each product.

The relationship between GB 44246-2024 and the GB/T 4706 series of standards

GB 44246-2024 is a mandatory top-level safety technical specification for household appliances and other products.

The GB/T 4706 series is a dedicated standard for product safety compliance verification.

GB 44246 verifies the compliance of product safety requirements through the corresponding GB/T 4706 series standards in Appendix A.

The two are used together and cannot be lacking; The CCC certification of household appliances is based on the GB/T 4706 series standards as the test basis, and must also meet the mandatory requirements of GB 44246-2024. The product must meet both standard requirements and obtain a valid CCC certificate before it can be legally circulated and sold in China.

In Appendix A, the electrical safety compliance verification standard for sports equipment is GB 31187. The safety compliance verification standard for electric toy products is GB/T 19865.
