Thailand will expand the scope of electrical regulation and add 7 new types of electrical product regulations from 2024 to 2025
The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) is preparing to announce the addition of 7 electrical appliances as controlled products between 2024 and 2025. This has improved the level of public safety protection. Prepare to force the other 7 electrical appliances to become regulated products. Electrical appliances for hair or skin care, deep oil fryers and fryers, air conditioners, hot and cold water dispensers, residential electrical switchgear and electrical control equipment assemblies, and electric motors.
Mr. Banjong Sukreetha, Secretary General of the Industrial Standards Association, revealed that TISI operates in accordance with the policies of the Ministry of Industry. Strengthen protection by continuously implementing standards to ensure the safety of people using products that meet standards. Currently, TISI has announced 143 products related to the safety of people's lives and property as controlled products, which will take effect from 2024 to 2025.

The control of 7 new electrical products is as follows:
01. Electrical appliances used for hair, fur, or skin care, TIS 60335, Volume 2 (23) 2021, with a voltage not exceeding 250 volts, such as hair combs, curlers, dryers, and dryers. The testing of foot care equipment through increased requirements and original standards is aimed at preventing fever. Preventing malfunctions and displaying signs and labels will take effect in July 2024.
02. Flood oil fryers and fryers with a capacity not exceeding 5 liters, TIS 60335, Volume 2 (13) 2021, for residential use. Commercial deep oil fryers are not included. Added requirements and testing to the original standard. By defining coverage and categorizing it more clearly. And modify the requirements for signs and labels. It still maintains important requirements for controlling safety, such as temperature control, so that it is not too high during use. The fryer has leakage protection during operation. This includes preventing contact with electrical components, which will take effect in July 2024.
03. The range of room air conditioning energy efficiency TIS 2134-2022 has been modified from the previous standard to be more comprehensive and clear, which stipulates that the total cooling capacity should not exceed 18000 watts and the single-phase electrical voltage should not exceed 250 volts. The multiphase electrical voltage shall not exceed 600 volts. Pipeline type air conditioners with a total cooling capacity of less than 8000 watts and an external static pressure of less than 25 Pascals will take effect in January 2025.
04. Drinking hot water dispensers and drinking cold water dispensers are only for safety purposes. The important requirements of TIS 2461-25XX are leakage current protection and electrical durability at operating temperature. The overload protection of transformers and related circuits has heat resistance and fire resistance, as well as prevents contact with electrical components, in accordance with IEC standards and belongs to international standards. The bill will come into effect in June 2024.
05. Electrical switches for residential use, TIS 824, Volume 1-2019, specify a voltage not exceeding 440 volts and are suitable for residential use inside and outside buildings. The original standard has been modified to include boxes (boxes) for electrical switches. It also covers electrical switches including indicator lights, electronic electrical switches, remote control electrical switches (RCS), time delay switches (TDS), electrical switches, and accessories. Used for building electronic systems and firefighter switches, which will take effect in March 2024.
06. Low voltage switchgear and control equipment components, Volume 3, Distribution boards, TIS 1436, Volume 3-2021, for public use. Covering distribution boards used in residential buildings. The important requirement is the durability of materials and components. Waterproof and dustproof, anti electric shock protection, equipment interoperability, circuit continuity and connection with external equipment, temperature rise limit, short circuit withstand capacity, and electromagnetic compatibility will take effect in June 2024.
07. AC motor three-phase induction type, TIS 866, Volume 30 (101) -2018, covering three-phase motors. It does not include motors assembled in the machine. Electrical equipment with a rated power of 0.12-15 kilowatts has undergone significant modifications to the original standard requirements, referring to the energy efficiency level classification of the IEC standard, which will take effect in August 2025.
Importers of these 7 products must import products that meet the standards. Distributors must only sell products that meet the standards. If there is a violation, it will be punished in accordance with the law.
