Upgrading of Chemical Substance Regulation: South Korea Revises Toxic Substance Management Regulations

On November 17, 2023, the Korean Institute of Environmental Research issued Announcement No. 2023-64, which revised the "Notice on the designation of toxic substances". This measure is aimed at more effective management and monitoring of chemical substances, ensuring public safety and environmental protection.

 

 

According to the latest announcement, the revision mainly involves the following aspects:

1. The name of the chemical substance with the unique number 2017-1-758 has been modified. The substance is now designated as [triphenyl sulfonium salt and 2,3-bis (2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) 5-sulfobicyclo [2.2.1] heptane-2,3-dicarboxylic acid (1:1); 2064323-02-8] and mixtures with a content exceeding 25%.

2. Multiple new numbers have been added after the unique number "2023-11188", ranging from "2023-1119" to "2023-1173". This change includes the addition of various new chemical substances, such as "2023-1119": [methacrylic acid; 79-41-4] and mixtures with a content exceeding 5%, as well as "2023-1120": 1,3-bis (methyl isocyanate) benzene; 3634-83-1 and mixtures with a content exceeding 1%.

These revisions aim to improve management and monitoring standards for chemical substances to protect public health and environmental safety. The new announcement will take effect three months after its release. The Korean Environmental Research Institute calls on all relevant enterprises and individuals to pay attention to these changes and ensure compliance with new regulations within the specified time frame to ensure compliance with national environmental safety standards.
