Spot check: 80 household appliances are found to be unqualified

In 2023, the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Market Regulation randomly inspected six types of products, including range hoods, induction cookers, water storage electric water heaters, tableware disinfection cabinets, electric kettles, and automatic rice cookers, and found 80 unqualified products, involving e-commerce platforms and production units.

According to relevant regulations such as the Product Quality Law of the People's Republic of China, the Interim Measures for the Administration of Product Quality Supervision and Sampling, and the Guangdong Provincial Regulations on Product Quality Supervision, in 2023, the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, in conjunction with the Zhongshan Municipal Administration for Market Regulation, will organize a joint provincial and municipal supervision and sampling of the quality of four types of products, including range hoods, induction cookers, water storage electric water heaters, and tableware disinfection cabinets. The spot check results are hereby announced as follows:

01. Basic information

A total of 47 unqualified products were found during this spot check. Among them, 22 unqualified products were produced and sold by the production and sales units, and 25 unqualified products were sold on the e-commerce platform (Tmall 5, Pinduoduo 9, Tiktok 2, Vipshop 1, Alibaba 1, Taobao 7). In the spot check of unqualified products, there are 13 range hoods, 14 induction cookers, 13 water storage electric water heaters, and 7 tableware disinfection cabinets.

02. Analysis of Spot Check Results
（1） Range hood. The spot check involved five platform sales units, namely Alibaba, Tiktok, JD, Taobao, Pinduoduo and Tmall, four production and sales units in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan and Zhongshan, as well as two production units in Anhui and Shandong provinces outside the province. Thirteen products were found unqualified. The unqualified items include input power and current, moisture resistance, leakage current and electrical strength, structure, internal wiring, power connections and external flexible cords, wiring terminals for external wires, grounding measures, protection against touching live parts, energy efficiency level, noise, and air performance.

（2） Electromagnetic stove. This spot check involves 8 sales units on platforms such as Alibaba, JD.com, Pinduoduo, Suning, Taobao, Tmall, Vipshop, and Xiaohongshu, as well as 16 production and sales units in cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Huizhou, Shanwei, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, Zhaoqing, Qingyuan, Chaozhou, Jieyang, and Yunfu within the province, and 7 production units in 4 provinces including Shanghai, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Shandong (Qingdao) outside the province. 14 products were found to be unqualified during the spot check. The unqualified items include protection against contact with live parts, abnormal operation, mechanical strength, structure, power connections and external flexible cords, electrical clearance, creepage distance and solid insulation, continuous disturbance voltage, radiation disturbance, and energy efficiency level.

（3） Storage type electric water heater. This spot check involves three sales units on platforms including JD.com, Tmall, and Vipshop, as well as three production and sales units in Guangzhou, Foshan, and Zhongshan within the province, and three production units in two provinces outside Anhui and Shandong. Thirteen products were found to be unqualified during the spot check. The unqualified items include power connections and external flexible cords, protection against touching live parts, structure, grounding measures, energy efficiency level, and capacity.

（4） Tableware disinfection cabinet. This spot check involves 5 sales units on platforms such as JD.com, Pinduoduo, Suning, Taobao, and Xiaohongshu, as well as 9 production and sales units in cities including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Heyuan, Meizhou, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Zhanjiang, and Chaozhou within the province, and 3 production units in 2 provinces outside of Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces. Seven products were found to be unqualified during the spot check. The unqualified items include protection against contact with live parts, input power and current, leakage current and electrical strength at operating temperature, moisture resistance, leakage current and electrical strength, stability and mechanical hazards, and structure.

A total of 33 unqualified products were found during this spot check. Among them, there are 17 unqualified products for electric kettles, including 12 unqualified products on e-commerce platforms (2 on Tmall, 8 on JD.com, 1 on Alibaba, and 1 on Xiaohongshu), and 5 unqualified products from production and sales units; There are 16 non compliant products for automatic rice cookers, including 12 non compliant products on e-commerce platforms (6 on Tmall, 1 on JD.com, 4 on Pinduoduo, and 1 on Alibaba), and 4 non compliant products from production and sales units.

02. Analysis of Spot Check Results

（1） Electric kettle. This spot check involves 7 sales units on platforms such as Tmall, JD.com, Pinduoduo, and Xiaohongshu, 11 production units in cities such as Zhanjiang, Foshan, Zhongshan, Chaozhou, and Yunfu, as well as 13 production units in 5 provinces (cities) outside the province, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Shandong. During the spot check, 17 products were found to be unqualified, including protection against contact with live parts, input power and current, abnormal operation, mechanical strength, structure, power connections and external flexible cords, grounding measures, screws and connections, electrical clearances, creepage distance, and solid insulation.

（2） Automatic rice cooker. This spot check involved 6 sales units on platforms such as Pinduoduo, Alibaba, and Suning, as well as 9 production units in cities such as Zhuhai, Shantou, Maoming, and Chaozhou, and 5 production units in provinces (cities) outside the province including Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui. Sixteen products were found to be unqualified during the spot check, including input power and current, abnormal operation, structure, grounding measures, screws and connections, and energy efficiency levels.
