Access requirements for Australian heat pump water heater RCM

Time:

2022-11-07

Home appliances can only be sold in the Australian and New Zealand market if they meet the requirements of safety access, comply with the Australian and New Zealand EMC standards and wireless spectrum requirements, and affix RCM marks. The RCM logo can only be affixed if the requirements of safety+EMC are met at the same time.

The Electrical Regulation Authority (ERAC) has established the Australian Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS). The products within the specified scope can only be sold on the market if they comply with Australian New Zealand standards or IEC standards and are affixed with the RCM logo. The high-risk (Level 3) must obtain a safety certification (such as SAA) from the designated government agency or certification authority and be registered in EESS.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) stipulates that, while meeting the requirements for security access, household appliances must comply with the Australian and New Zealand EMC standards and radio spectrum requirements and be labeled with the RCM logo before they can be sold in the Australian and New Zealand market. The RCM logo can only be affixed if the requirements of safety+EMC are met at the same time.

Introduction to special requirements of heat pump water heater

Australia has no corresponding energy efficiency regulations for heat pump water heater products, but for heat pump water heater products registered on the Clean Energy Commission, certain subsidies can be provided when they are installed by the owner. Therefore, the registered heat pump water heater products will be more competitive.

To register the heat pump water heater, in addition to the basic RCM requirements, it also needs to obtain the AS 2712 certification, which includes many aspects of performance tests of the heat pump water heater, including: energy efficiency (AS/NZS 5125.1, AS/NZS 4234, water tank requirements (AS/NZS 4692.1, AS/NZS 4692.2)) and water certification (AS 3498, AS 4020).

The energy efficiency test shall be conducted under the following four working conditions

Working Condition

Dry bulb temperature/dew point temperature ℃

Initial water temperature ℃

1

<10/dry bulb temperature - 2.5 to dry bulb temperature - 1.5

<10

2

18-20/11-14

<15

3

30-34/14-18

<25

4

31-35/22-25

<25
