Saudi Arabia releases draft energy efficiency regulations for SASO 2892 refrigerators and freezers, these 8 changes should be noted!
Recently, the Saudi Arabian Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) released a new draft of energy efficiency regulations for refrigerators and freezers: SASO 2892: 2025- Energy performance, testing, and labeling requirements for refrigerators and freezers. This regulatory update involves multiple key contents, including:

01. Expansion of applicable scope of volume
This further covers products with larger capacities, including refrigerators and freezers with a maximum capacity of 1500 liters.
02. Product Scope Update
Low noise refrigeration appliances, professional refrigeration storage cabinets, quick freezing cabinets, and products with direct sales functions are not within the scope of this regulation, except for professional horizontal freezing cabinets.
03. Upgrade testing standards
Specifically including IEC 62552-1:2015/AMD1:2020, IEC 62552-2:2015/AMD1:2020, IEC 62552-3:2015/AMD1:2020。
04. Introduce a new definition
New definitions have been added for low-noise refrigerators and environment controlled anti condensation heaters.
05. Clarify the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard Requirements (MEPS)
EEI limits have been set for refrigerators above 500L and refrigerators below 500L.
06. Update EEI Level Table
Updated the EEI values corresponding to each energy efficiency level.
07. Update of energy efficiency labels and market supervision tolerance table
Add tolerance regulations for freezing capacity and temperature rise time, and make tolerance requirements for daily and annual electricity consumption at 16 ℃ and 32 ℃ respectively.
08. Simplification of Product Categories
Simplify from the original 10 categories to only 3 categories.
