UAE releases new energy efficiency labeling standards for air conditioning products

Time:

2026-03-11

The United Arab Emirates has officially released the new version of the energy efficiency labeling standards for small capacity air conditioners (UAE. S 5010-1:2025) and large capacity air conditioners (UAE. S 5010-5:2025). The resolution will take effect from the day after its release, and the new standards are expected to be officially enforced within 2026.

The United Arab Emirates recently issued Cabinet Resolution No. 157 of 2025, officially releasing the new version of the energy efficiency labeling standards for small capacity air conditioners (UAE. S 5010-1:2025) and large capacity air conditioners (UAE. S 5010-5:2025). The resolution will take effect from the day after its release, and the new standards are expected to be officially enforced within 2026.

Core changes

1. UAE. S 5010-1:2025 "Labeling of Electrical Equipment - Energy Efficiency Labeling Part 1: Small Capacity Air Conditioning"

The requirement for an upper limit of 65000 Btu/h for air conditioning capacity has been added, and duct air conditioners have been included in the scope of energy efficiency regulation.

The energy efficiency level will be determined based on CSPF (Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor), and the original 20 degree test item will be removed. Enterprises need to adapt to the new testing standards.

2. UAE. S 5010-5:2025 "Labeling of Electrical Equipment - Energy Efficiency Labeling Part 5: Large Capacity Air Conditioning"

Clarify the lower limit of air conditioning capacity to 65000 Btu/h, add product categories such as condensing units and machine room air conditioning, and cover more commercial and industrial high-capacity air conditioning categories;

Synchronize the addition of supporting standards for condensing units and computer room air conditioning;

Delete the 20 degree setting test requirement and add minimum energy efficiency requirements for various appliances.

 UAE Air Conditioning Energy Efficiency Labeling System

The energy efficiency labeling system for air conditioning in the United Arab Emirates is led and implemented by the Emirates Bureau of Standards and Metrology (ESMA), and is a core component of the country's Electrical Product Compliance System (ECAS/EESL).

The current system has gone through multiple iterations: the first version of the standard established an energy efficiency labeling framework in 2014, the upgraded version significantly increased the minimum energy efficiency performance standard (MEPS) in 2019, and was enforced nationwide from 2021.

The release of the 2025 version is a further deepening and improvement of the regulatory system mentioned above. According to current compliance requirements, air conditioning products entering the UAE market must hold a certificate of conformity issued by a recognized certification body and complete registration in the ESMA product database before they can be legally sold and circulated.

Compliance recommendations

For manufacturers and importers interested in exporting air conditioning products to the United Arab Emirates, they should closely track the specific technical requirements and official implementation time of the new standard, initiate product testing and certification work as early as possible, ensure timely completion of compliance certificate updates, and avoid market access risks caused by standard switching.
