EU releases new energy efficiency regulations for shutdown and standby modes (EU) 2023/826

The EU officially released the new Energy Efficiency Regulation (EU) 2023/826- Ecological design requirements for power off mode, standby mode and network standby energy consumption of household appliances and electronic products and office equipment, which will be officially implemented on May 9, 2025.

Various intelligent home, office equipment, and electronic appliances have become good helpers for people's convenient lives, but their energy consumption in standby, shutdown, and other modes cannot be underestimated. In order to further protect the environment and resources, the EU officially released the new Energy Efficiency Regulation (EU) 2023/826- Ecological design requirements for power off mode, standby mode and network standby energy consumption of household appliances and electronic products and office equipment on April 17, 2023. The new regulation (EU) 2023/826 will be officially implemented on May 9, 2025, at which time, the old energy efficiency regulation (EC) No. 1275/2008 will be abolished.

 

1、 List of new products covered by the new regulations

Hair care equipment; Streaming media devices; Audio speaker; Complex set-top boxes and simple set-top boxes;
Electrically adjustable furniture; Adjustable height desk; Height adjustable bed and chair (excluding medical equipment and wheelchairs); Other electrically adjustable furniture.
Electric building components: louvers, screens, canopies, pergolas, curtains, doors, windows, skylights.

 

2、 Scope of application of new regulations

1. Household dishwashers covered by Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/2022
2. Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/2023 on household dishwashers and household washing and drying machines
3. Desktop computers, integrated desktop computers, and laptops covered by Commission Regulation (EU) No 617/2013
4. Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/424 targets servers and data storage devices
5. Electronic displays targeted by Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/2021
6. A projector with a mechanism for exchanging lenses with other lenses with different focal lengths

 

3、 Changes in expression of some products

Replace 'video players' with' video records'
'Hi fi players' instead of' Hi fi records'
Replace 'Hand held video game consoles' with' games consoles'
'sports equipment 'replaces' sports equipment with electric or electronic components'

 

4、 New energy efficiency requirements

1. Starting from May 9, 2027, the power consumption of electronic and electrical equipment in the shutdown state will be reduced to less than 0.3 watts.
2. From May 9, 2025, the power consumption of electronic and electrical equipment with display in standby mode shall not exceed 0.8 watts (the current standard is 1 watt, and the new regulations are not applicable to drum Clothes dryer).
3. Starting from May 9, 2027, the energy consumption of network devices (HiNA devices or devices with HiNA functionality) in networked standby mode shall not exceed 8 watts.

 

5、 Delay limit for switching the coffee machine to shutdown or standby mode

#For drip type household coffee machines that store coffee in insulated kettles, up to 5 minutes;
#For drip type household coffee machines that store coffee in non insulated kettles, a maximum of 40 minutes;
#For household coffee machines other than drip filters, the maximum duration is 30 minutes.
#The maximum delay time for switching to off or standby mode for electronic and electrical equipment other than coffee machines shall not exceed 20 minutes. The maximum delay time for switching to network standby mode should not exceed 20 minutes, unless it does not match the designed purpose of the product.
