Update of Chemical Classification List in Japan
On June 29, 2023, the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) of Japan published or revised the classification list of 170 substances according to the sixth revision of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
The latest released list includes a total of 3327 substances, including 47 newly classified substances and 123 reclassified substances.
NITE has relaxed its requirements for companies to submit information to its GHS project. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) and the Ministry of Environment (MoE) are responsible for classifying these substances and listing them for the company's reference in preparing GHS labels and Safety data sheet (SDS). Companies can use the GHS Mixture Classification and Label Creation System (NITE Gmiccs) to search for substances, which can create English and Japanese labels.
