IECEE officially released the standard IEC 62368-1:2023 (4th edition) TRF for audio, video, information technology, and communication technology equipment, preparing for the implementation and application of the new standard.

After the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) released the fourth edition of the standard IEC 62368-1:2023 for audio, video, information technology, and communication technology equipment on May 26, 2023, IECEE finally released the TRF template on August 18, 2023, preparing for the implementation and application of the new standard.

 

Update and changes to the fourth edition of IEC62368-1 standard:

The main changes included in the fourth edition of IEC 62368-1 compared to the third edition are as follows:

  • Updated table for external line requirements
  • Revised requirements for openings on fire-resistant enclosures
  • Revised requirements for liquid filled components
  • Revised requirements for battery charging

 

 

The details vary as follows:
 

-Article 1:
This standard does not apply to products used in damp indoor areas

 

-Clause 4.1.1:
No longer accepting components certified to IEC 60065 or IEC 60950-1

 

-Clause 4.1.8:
Added requirements for products containing refrigerants, and products containing more than 1 liter of liquid are no longer exempt from the requirements of G.15

 

-Clause 4.1.9:
Added requirement for voltage measuring instruments, unless otherwise specified, the internal resistance of voltage measuring instruments must be at least 1M Ω

 

-Clause 4.8.1:
If the product is unable to remove the button battery from the product due to the position of the battery, the requirements of this clause do not apply, but the warning requirements of 4.8.2 still apply

 

-Clause 4.8.3:
Updated requirements for button battery compartment opening method

 

-Clause 4.10.3:
The power cord connected to Mains needs to comply with the requirements of G.7, and this type of power cord is not considered an external wire

 

-Clause 5.5.2.2:
Added instructions for plug discharge testing of plug equipment type B, requiring measurement of voltage after 5 seconds of disconnection

 

-Clause 5.6.2.2:
Added a note that functional ground conductors cannot use yellow and green dual color wires, except for multi-purpose pre assembled components

 

-Clause 5.6.5.1:
Products that require protective grounding should have a main protective grounding terminal. If a detachable power cord is used, the grounding terminal on the appliance inlet can serve as the main protective grounding terminal

 

-Clause 6.2.3.2:
For the fire prevention method of Control Fire Spread, other components and interception components other than secondary lithium batteries are considered non resistive PIS in the PS2 line, while resistive PIS is considered in the PS3 line

 

-Clause 6.4.6:
If the distance between the varistor and the combustible shell is less than 13mm, then the varistor needs to comply with G.8.2

 

-Clause 6.4.8.3.4:
For professional equipment expected to be used in environments where combustible materials are unlikely to be present, Figure 44 can be used to comply with the requirements for fire-resistant enclosures

 

-Clause 6.4.8.3.5:
The side openings can meet the requirements for opening fireproof shells according to Figure 45

 

-Clause 9.6.3:
Updated testing methods and limit requirements for wireless charging, with more detailed testing methods and increased temperature limits

 

-Clause B.1.6:
Added testing requirements for special output conditions

 

-Clause B.2.5:
The limit requirements for input testing of non Mains powered products have been clarified, and the measured input current or power cannot exceed the rated value

 

-Clause F.3.6.2:
Clarified the application of functional symbols
