Two national standards for recycled plastics have been released, which respectively stipulate the limits and determination methods of restricted substances for recycled plastics, as well as the labeling system for recycled plastics, including naming, text symbols, and logo graphics. They are applicable to the production and trade activities of recycled plastic particles, finished products, and materials containing recycled plastics.
Recently, two recommended national standards GB/T 45091-2024 "Requirements for Limiting Substances in Recycled Plastics" and GB/T 45090-2024 "Identification and Marking of Recycled Plastics" have been officially released!

Limit requirements for restricted substances in recycled plastics
The "Requirements for Limits of Restricted Substances for Recycled Plastic" specifies the types, limits, and determination methods of restricted substances for recycled plastic materials. It applies to recycled plastic particles and finished products made from waste plastics through screening, classification, crushing, cleaning, melt extrusion (or modified granulation) and other processes. This document also applies to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle flakes. The restrictions on the use of substances specified in this document only apply to the inherent components of recycled plastics specified in this document, and do not apply to subsequent processing such as processing or modification using recycled plastics.
This document does not apply to recycled plastics from hazardous waste such as medical waste, pesticide packaging, and radioactive waste, nor does it apply to recycled plastics used as food contact and pharmaceutical packaging materials.

Identification and Marking of Recycled Plastic
The national standard "Identification and Marking of Recycled Plastics" specifies the identification system for recycled plastics, including naming conventions, textual symbols, and graphic symbols. It is applicable to the production and trade activities of plastic materials containing recycled plastics (components), aiming to help relevant parties identify their main materials, properties, etc.
According to the draft standard for soliciting opinions, the abbreviation of the material should be followed by "(REC)" to indicate that the product is made of recycled plastic, and the percentage of recycled plastic content should be written after "REC" to declare the proportion of recycled plastic content in the product.
When a polymer mixture or alloy needs to declare the mass proportion of each material in the product, the number of the mass percentage of the material can be written in parentheses after the material code. When it is necessary to declare the fillers, plasticizers, and flame retardants contained in the product, they should comply with the provisions of GB/T 1844.2, GB/T 1844.3, and GB/T 1844.4. The following are some naming examples.

Definition: Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) recycled plastic products.
Note: The product contains 70% recycled plastic.

Definition: Recycled plastic products made from polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) alloys.
Note: Identification method for polymer mixtures or alloy materials.

>[PE(40)+PP(60)](REC100)<
Definition: Recycled plastic products made from a mixture of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), with PE accounting for 40% of the mass and PP accounting for 60% of the mass.
Note: When it comes to polymer mixtures, it is necessary to declare the mass proportion of each material in the product.

Definition: High density polyethylene (PE-HD) recycled plastic derived from industrial products (1), blue (B2), cylindrical (C)
Note: When it is necessary to declare the product color and characteristics, as well as the source of raw materials, the code shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 40006.1.

Definition: Nylon 66 recycled plastic product, containing 25% glass fiber and 15% mineral powder.
Note: When declaring the filler contained, the filler code shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 1844.2.
