Integrating 6 types of products, the new energy efficiency standards for kitchen appliances will be implemented in September 2025

The GB21456-2024 standard will be implemented in September 2025, integrating energy efficiency requirements for six types of kitchen small appliances, including rice cookers, electric pressure cookers, induction cookers, microwave ovens, electric kettles, and electric stew pots. It adopts a 3-level energy efficiency rating structure and is not applicable to commercial and industrial products.

GB 21456-2024 "Minimum Allowable Values and Energy Efficiency Grades for Household and Similar Kitchen Appliances" will be officially implemented on September 1, 2025. This is the first integration of energy efficiency standards for six types of kitchen small appliances. It not only revised the energy efficiency requirements for rice cookers, electric pressure cookers, induction cookers, and microwave ovens, but also for the first time included electric kettles and electric stew pots/pans in the scope of energy efficiency standards.

Scope of Application


This document applies to the following types of household and similar kitchen appliances with a rated voltage not exceeding AC 250 V:

Electric rice cookers heated by electric heating elements or electromagnetic induction, with a rated power not exceeding 2200 W;

An electric pressure cooker with automatic control of working pressure, heated by electric heating elements or electromagnetic induction, rated power not exceeding 2200 W, rated capacity not exceeding 10 L, and rated cooking pressure ranging from 40 kPa to 140 kPa (gauge pressure);

Electric stew pots and pans with a rated power not exceeding 2200 W;

An electric kettle that can pour water from the spout by holding the handle and tilting the body of the kettle. It is only used for boiling water and heating it to boiling point without automatic water filling function;

Electromagnetic stoves with one or more heating units, each with a rated power of 700 W to 3500 W;

Microwave ovens, including combination microwave ovens, with a maximum rated input power of 2500 W or less, utilizing electromagnetic energy in the ISM frequency band at a frequency of 2450 MHz and heating items and food inside the oven cavity using resistive electric heating elements.

Note: The ISM frequency band is an electromagnetic frequency range determined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and adopted in the standard numbered CISPR11 developed by the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR).

Commercial electromagnetic stove, power frequency electromagnetic stove, and concave stove;

Commercial microwave ovens, industrial microwave ovens, and microwave ovens with range hoods.

 

Product energy efficiency rating

The energy efficiency levels of six types of products, including rice cookers, electric pressure cookers, induction cookers, microwave ovens, electric kettles, and electric stew pots, all adopt a three-level energy efficiency level structure, with the highest energy efficiency level being level 1.

 

01. Energy Efficiency Level of Rice Cooker

The energy efficiency level of rice cookers mainly considers indicators such as thermal efficiency, standby power (if applicable), and insulation energy consumption (if applicable).

 

02. Energy efficiency level of electric pressure cooker

The energy efficiency level of electric pressure cookers mainly considers indicators such as thermal efficiency, standby power (if applicable), and insulation energy consumption (if applicable).

 

03. Energy efficiency rating of electric stew pots and pans

The energy efficiency level of electric stew pots and pans mainly considers thermal efficiency, standby power, insulation energy consumption, etc.

 

04. Energy efficiency level of electric kettle

The energy efficiency level of electric kettles mainly considers thermal efficiency, standby power, etc.

 

05. Energy efficiency level of electromagnetic stove

The energy efficiency level of an induction cooker mainly considers thermal efficiency and standby power. For induction cookers with multiple heating units, the heating unit with the lowest thermal efficiency is selected to represent the overall thermal efficiency level of the machine.

 

06. Energy Efficiency Level of Microwave Oven

The energy efficiency level of microwave ovens mainly considers indicators such as thermal efficiency, shutdown power, standby power (if applicable), and barbecue energy consumption limits.
