Starting from October 9, 2025, the North American Energy Efficiency E-STAR V3.0 standard for air purifiers will be implemented
Time:
2025-10-10
Starting from October 9, 2025, the energy efficiency of air purifiers must meet the requirements of Energy Star 3.0 version in order to obtain the "Energy Star" logo. All products certified with the original 2.0 version will be removed from the Energy Star official website.
After the US Department of Energy (DOE) implemented mandatory control over air purifier products in January 2024, in order to ensure consistency between the Energy Star specifications and the testing methods used in DOE's definition and minimum efficiency standards, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) coordinated with the DOE to release the final version of the Energy Star 3.0 standard for air purifier energy efficiency on January 6, 2025.
Starting from October 9, 2025, air purifiers must meet the requirements of version 3.0 in order to obtain the "Energy Star" logo. All products previously certified with version 2.0 will be removed from the Energy Star official website. This update not only raises the energy efficiency requirements for air purifier products, but also makes significant updates to the DOE regulations for air purifiers.

Main changes
1. Upgrade testing indicators
The new version 3.0 will shift the energy efficiency standard from Smoke CADR/W (Clean Air Delivery Rate per Watt) to PM2.5 CADR/W and the Integrated Energy Factor (IEF) index referenced in DOE regulatory testing procedures.

Certification indicator: Energy Star 3.0 specification
2. Increase in the number of tests
For the requirement of product testing quantity, in order to comply with DOE regulations, the 3.0 version of the standard has added the option of testing multiple units. Customers can choose to test one or at least two units themselves.

3. Cancel standby power limit
Due to the integration of CADR and power performance in IEF, the new version 3.0 eliminates the requirement for the standby power limit of air purifiers.
Overall, compared to version 2.0, Energy Star 3.0 has stricter energy efficiency requirements for air purifiers, and Energy Star 3.0 certification will further enhance the brand value of air purifiers.
