Major update on GCC certification for the seven Gulf countries! The latest mandatory standard for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of household appliances, IEC 61000-3-2:2018/AMD2:2024, has been fully implemented on March 4, 2026. The old version of the certificate has expired, and products without updated certificates will not be able to enter the Gulf Seven Countries market smoothly.

GCC certification (G-Mark) is a mandatory certification for products entering the seven Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen), and the certification principle directly adopts the latest version of GSO/IEC standards.

01. Basic Information of Standards

IEC 61000-3-2:2018/AMD2:2024

Amendment 2-Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 3-2:Limits-Limits for harmonic current emissions (equipment input current ≤ 16 A per phase)

Amendment 2- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) - Part 3-2: Limits - Harmonic Current Emission Limits (Equipment Input Current ≤ 16A/Phase)

This revised version is a revision of IEC 61000-3-2:2018+AMD1:2020. Simultaneously released and integrated all revised versions of IEC 61000-3-2:2018+AMD1:2020+AMD2:2024 CSV (merged version).

02. Scope of applicable products

This standard involves the limit of harmonic currents injected into public distribution systems, specifying the harmonic component limits of input currents generated by equipment under specific conditions.

Suitable for electrical and electronic equipment with a rated input current of no more than 16A per phase and intended to be connected to a public low-voltage distribution system.

03、Main revision content

The main revisions of IEC 61000-3-2:2018/AMD2:2024 to IEC 61000-3-2:2018 and AMD1:2020 are as follows:
a) Update the emission limits for lighting equipment with a rated power of 25W to consider new types of lighting equipment;
b) An additional threshold of 5W has been added, and all lighting equipment below this threshold is not subject to emission restrictions;
c) Modified the requirements applicable to dimmers when operating non incandescent lamps;
d) Added testing conditions for digital load side transmission control devices;
e) Cancelled the use of reference lamps and reference ballasts in lighting equipment testing;
f) Simplified and clarified the terminology used for lighting equipment;
g) Classify stage lighting and professional lighting fixtures for studios as Class A;
h) Clarification on the classification of emergency lighting equipment;
i) Clarification regarding lighting equipment that includes a control module and an active input power of 2W;
j) Update of testing conditions for television receivers;
k) Update of testing conditions for induction stoves, while considering other types of cooking utensils;
l) To align with IEC 61000-3-12, the scope of application of IEC 61000-3-2 has been changed from equipment with an input current of 16A to equipment with a rated input current of 16A.

It is recommended that relevant enterprises immediately carry out existing GCC certificate verification, confirm that the IEC 61000-3-2 standard on which the product is based has been updated to the latest version, and complete EMC testing and compliance rectification according to the new version of the standard to ensure that the product meets the market access requirements of the seven Gulf countries.
