The first new national standard for pet electrical appliances will be officially implemented on May 1, 2026

Time:

2026-04-27

The first new national standard for pet electrical appliances GB/T 46485-2025 "Electric cleaning and maintenance appliances for household and similar use pets" will be officially implemented on May 1, 2026. The standard specifies the performance and safety requirements for pet appliances, filling the gap in the long-term lack of unified national standards in the field of pet appliances. This means that various types of pet appliances, including automatic feeders, smart litter boxes, and pet dryers, will enter a new stage of standardized development.

Core Interpretation

The new national standard applies to the production, inspection, and sales of electric cleaning and maintenance equipment for pets with a single-phase rated voltage not exceeding 250V, which is used in households or similar places. Electric cleaning and maintenance equipment for pets refers to appliances driven by electricity that have one or more functions, such as cleaning the excrement, hair, secretions, etc. of pets, removing odors, assisting in the care or feeding of pets, etc.

The new national standard for pet appliances mainly focuses on mainstream products such as smart litter boxes and automatic feeders that are used in cleaning and maintenance scenarios. Starting from the main functions and characteristics of each type of product, multiple key performance indicators are clearly listed, including effective volume, excrement cleaning, odor removal, feeding accuracy, battery life, microbial removal, temperature control, air supply volume, negative ion concentration, noise and other requirements, providing comprehensive technical basis for product research and development, production, inspection and other links.

In terms of hygiene and cleaning performance, the new national standard stipulates that appliances with excrement cleaning function should have a excrement cleaning rate of not less than 90%. The difference in odor intensity of appliances with odor removal function should not be less than 2.0. The sterilization rate of equipment with sterilization function should not be less than 90.0%. The moisture-proof rate of appliances with moisture-proof function should not be lower than 90%.

In terms of feeding accuracy, the new national standard stipulates that for instruments with automatic feeding function, the deviation between the measured value and the set value of the feeding amount should be within ± 5%.

In terms of safety and comfort, the new national standard also covers electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and functional indicators such as air supply volume, negative ion concentration, noise, etc., to ensure that the product operates safely without disturbing pets.

Standard Requirements

Electrical safety:

The equipment shall comply with GB/T 4706.1 and corresponding special standard requirements.

Electromagnetic compatibility::

The equipment shall comply with the applicable requirements of GB 4343.1 and GB 17625.1.

Effective volume:

Instruments that indicate the volume of the box should not measure less than 95% of the nominal value.

Clearance of excrement:

Instruments with clear excreta cleaning function should have a excreta cleaning rate of no less than 90%.

Note: Excretion mainly refers to solid and liquid excrement from pets.

Deodorization:

Instruments with odor removal function should have an odor intensity difference of no less than 2.0.

After purifying the odor in the internal room, the intensity of the odor in the external environment should not exceed 2.0.

Accuracy of feeding::

Instruments with automatic feeding function should have a deviation of ± 5% between the measured amount and the set value.

Battery life:

The measured battery life of appliances powered by rechargeable batteries should not be less than 90% of the nominal value.

Microbial removal:

Sterilization: Instruments with sterilization function should have a sterilization rate of no less than 90.0%.

Antibacterial: Devices with antibacterial function should have an antibacterial material with an antibacterial rate of not less than 90.0%.

Moisture-proof:

Instruments with moisture-proof function should have a moisture-proof rate of not less than 90%.

Temperature control:

Instruments with temperature control function should have a measured temperature value within ± 2 ° C of the set value.

Air supply volume:

The actual measured value of the air supply volume of appliances with air supply function should not be less than 90% of the nominal value,

Negative ion concentration:

Instruments equipped with negative ion generation devices should have a measured negative ion concentration not less than 80% of the nominal value.

Noise:

An appliance for cleaning and grooming pets by means of air blowing or internal vacuum shall have a noise emission sound power level not exceeding 75 dB(A). The allowable deviation between the measured value and the declared value shall not exceed +3 dB(A).

For other appliances, the noise emission sound power level shall not exceed 65 dB(A).

The implementation of the new national standard for pet electrical appliances marks a new stage of standardized development in the industry. It not only provides a clear direction for product research and development and quality improvement for enterprises, but also promotes orderly market reshuffle and overall industrial upgrading by scientifically setting performance thresholds. As the first unified standard for household pet electric cleaning and maintenance equipment, it not only clarifies the technological research and development path, reduces resource waste caused by disorderly research and development, but also fills the long-standing industry standard gap, laying the foundation for the construction of subsequent segmented product standard systems and the development of testing methods.
