Recently, the Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga, ST) issued a notice specifying the implementation arrangements for the new energy efficiency star rating requirements for air conditioners from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2029. The key points are as follows:
Scope of Applicable Products and Testing Standards
Product scope: Suitable for single-phase split wall mounted non ducted air conditioners with a cooling capacity within the range of 7.1 kW
Testing standards: MS ISO 5151, ISO 16358-1
Energy Efficiency Star Requirements
cooling capacity range | star rating | CSPF measured value(Wh/Wh) |
<4.5kW | 5 star | ≥6.09 |
4 star | 5.40~6.09 | |
3 star | 4.80~5.40 | |
2 star | 4.10~4.80 | |
1 star | <4.10 | |
4.5~7.1kW | 5 star | ≥5.60 |
4 star | 5.00~5.60 | |
3 star | 4.40~5.00 | |
2 star | 4.00~4.40 | |
1 star | <4.00 |
Note: The Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) is 2 stars
Product Compliance Arrangements
Products already on the market before January 1, 2026:
No need to replace the energy efficiency label; the original label can be used for normal sales.
Products imported/produced after January 1, 2026:
If the product's energy efficiency certificate (COE) is within its validity period, the existing energy efficiency certificate can be used to continue importing and producing the product, and the original energy efficiency label can be used until the certificate expires.
Products with an Energy Efficiency Certificate (COE) expiring on or after January 1, 2026:
If the applicant submits a new application or renewal application on or after January 1, 2026, they must submit the existing energy efficiency test report and a new assessment letter issued by SIRIM QAS, update the energy efficiency label according to the new assessment letter, and it is recommended to mark the year 2026 on the label to distinguish between old and new labels.
