GB 4287-2026 "Emission Standards for Water Pollutants in the Textile Industry" has been released, integrating emission standards for four industries including textile dyeing and finishing, silk reeling, wool spinning, and linen spinning, and has mandatory enforcement effect. The new standards will be implemented in stages, with new enterprises starting from September 1, 2026 and existing enterprises starting from January 1, 2028.
The Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly released a new version of the "Emission Standards for Water Pollutants in the Textile Industry" (GB 4287-2026), which will be implemented in stages and have mandatory enforcement effect. New enterprises will implement it from September 1, 2026, and existing enterprises will implement it from January 1, 2028.
The new standard integrates the emission standards for textile dyeing and finishing, silk reeling, wool spinning, and linen spinning industries. The original "Emission Standards for Water Pollutants in Textile Dyeing and Finishing Industry" (GB 4287-2012) and its amendments, "Emission Standards for Water Pollutants in Silk Spinning Industry" (GB 28936-2012), "Emission Standards for Water Pollutants in Wool Spinning Industry" (GB 28937-2012), and "Emission Standards for Water Pollutants in Hemp Spinning Industry" (GB 28938-2012) are simultaneously abolished.

The new standard specifies the requirements for controlling, monitoring, and supervising the discharge of water pollutants from textile industry polluting units and production facilities, with a focus on optimizing the standard from the following four aspects:
One is to broaden the scope of application of the standards, adding industries such as chemical fiber weaving and industrial textile products, to achieve full coverage of the textile industry.
The second is to strengthen environmental risk prevention and control. For the effluent from centralized treatment facilities for dyeing and finishing wastewater and textile industry wastewater, acute toxicity of zebrafish eggs will be added as a comprehensive toxicity control indicator, and dual control will be achieved through synergistic physical and chemical indicators to accurately strengthen water ecological protection.
The third is to promote the synergy of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, optimize and improve the requirements for indirect emission control, promote the separation and treatment of textile industry sewage and domestic sewage from the source, and guide enterprises to withdraw from the city and enter the park; Differentiate the indirect discharge direction of sewage and establish differentiated control requirements to promote the systematic governance of the park and collaborative pollution reduction and carbon reduction.
The fourth is to refine the benchmark drainage volume, optimize and improve the benchmark drainage volume per unit product, and enhance the level of refined control of standards.
The new standards comprehensively control the discharge of water pollutants in the industry, promote pollution reduction and prevent environmental risks, while actively guiding and promoting the optimization of industrial scale and layout, coordinated governance of pollution reduction and carbon reduction, which has positive significance for promoting the green and high-quality development of the textile industry.
