On October 27, 2025, the US Energy Star Computers V9.0 standard will come into full effect!

On October 27, 2025, the US Energy Star Computers V9.0 standard came into full effect, and computers must meet the requirements of the Energy Star Computers V9.0 version to obtain the "Energy Star" logo.

On January 8, 2025, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officially released the Energy Star Computers V9.0 standard specification and declared it to be effective immediately. The full implementation date of the Energy Star Computers V9.0 standard is October 27, 2025.

 

 


1、 Regarding the timeline for effectiveness and execution


On January 8, 2025, manufacturers may choose to have their certification body (CB) certify qualified products in accordance with the requirements of Energy Star Computers V9.0, effective immediately.

After June 2, 2025, CBs will cease new product certification for version 8.0. The existing 8.0 version certification certificate can still be used for product registration before October 27, 2025.

From October 27, 2025 onwards, computers must meet the requirements of Energy Star Computers V9.0 in order to obtain the "Energy Star" logo.

 

2、 Major changes in Energy Star Computers V9.0 version


Change 1: Add the category of reinforced laptops.

Ruggedized Notebook: A Computer which meets the definition of a Notebook Computer that meets either MIL-STD 810H or IP66 (IEC 60529) and contains multiple expansion slots for expandability.

 

Change 2: The definition of "Full Network Proxy definition" has been removed as it no longer affects the mode weight selection of any product type in Energy Star Computers V9.0 version.

 

Change 3: Table 4 has been revised and the previous statement about "regular mode weights" has been removed.

 

Change 4: Simplify the TEC basic allowable values for laptops, all-in-one computers, and desktop computers.

 

Change 5: Modify the weighted values of functions, including adding weights for MUX devices and strengthening laptops.

 

Change 6: Update the weighting coefficient of high-performance integrated displays and increase the weighting coefficient of touch screens.

 

Change 7: Upgraded two referenced testing standards

  1. Generalized Internal Power Supply Efficiency Test Protocol, Rev. 6.6 upgrade to Generalized Internal Power Supply Efficiency Test Protocol, Rev. 6.7.2;

  2. IEC 62623 Ed. 1.0, 2012-10 upgrade to IEC 62623 Ed. 2.0, 2022-04。
