SOLUTION
◉ PH in Textiles
PH value, also known as hydrogen ion concentration index, pH value, is a scale of hydrogen ion activity in a solution, that is, a measure of the acidity and alkalinity of a solution in the usual sense. Under normal circumstances (25℃, about 298K), when pH<7, the solution is acidic, when pH>7, the solution is alkaline, and when pH=7, the solution is neutral.
PH value is a safety index for textiles, and the standard requires a pH value of 4.0 to 9.0. The high or low PH value not only affects the performance of the textile itself, but also affects the human skin. The pH value of healthy skin is between 5.0-5.6, which is weakly acidic. When the pH value exceeds the suitable range of the skin, it will stimulate and corrode the skin, cause skin inflammation, damage the human sweat gland system and nervous system, and endanger health.
◉ pH Standard Limits
The "National Basic Safety Technical Specification for Textile Products" stipulates that the pH value of Category A (infant and young children's textiles must meet) is 4.0-7.5, and the pH value of Category B (textiles that directly contact the skin must meet at least) is 4.0-8.5 (such as underwear). etc.), the pH limit of category C (textiles that do not directly contact the skin must at least meet) is 4.0-9.0 (such as coats, etc.). The pH limit of class B in Oeko-tex Standard-100 is 4.0-7.5, and the pH limit for decorative materials is 4.0-9.0.
◉ Factors Causing Abnormal pH
Pre-treatment process: Under alkaline conditions, the pH value will be too high.
Printing and dyeing process: In dyeing, dyes generally react with fibers under alkaline or acidic conditions. Improper handling will also cause the pH value of textiles to exceed the standard.
Post-treatment process: Incomplete post-treatment water washing and uncleaned auxiliaries during dyeing will also affect the pH value of textiles.
◉ PH Test Principle
Boil the sample with distilled water or deionized water with a pH meter with a glass electrode at room temperature, and measure the pH of the textile water extract by water extraction. After the liquid is cooled to room temperature, use a pH meter to measure its pH value. Instruments and equipment: test utensils with stoppered conical flasks, chemically stable glass beakers, glass rods, scissors, tweezers, measuring cylinders with stoppered glass, measuring flasks, balances (accuracy 0.01g), reciprocating or rotating oscillators, pH meters Tester test process:
