"Limitations of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in Inks" GB 38507-2020
◉ Standard Scope
(1) According to the requirements of GB 38507-2020, when the ink sample is sent for sample testing, the ink in the factory state should be sent for inspection, not the ink in the construction state after being formulated or diluted in the actual use process;
(2) It is clearly pointed out in the standard that the standard is not applicable to additives, thinners, car wash water during printing, etc.
◉ Ink Classification
According to the main diluent used in the product composition, it is divided into solvent ink, water-based ink, offset printing ink, energy-curable ink, and engraving gravure ink. Water-based inks, offset printing inks, energy-curing, engraving gravure inks are ink products with low volatile organic content.
Solvent ink is divided into gravure ink, flexo printing ink, inkjet printing ink and screen printing ink according to the printing method.
Water-based inks are divided into gravure inks, flexo printing inks, inkjet printing inks, and screen printing inks according to the printing method.
Offset printing inks are divided into sheet-fed offset printing inks, cold-set rotary inks and heat-set rotary inks according to paper feeding and drying methods
Energy-curable inks are divided into offset printing inks, flexo printing inks, screen printing inks, inkjet printing inks, gravure printing inks, etc.
Engraving gravure inks are not subdivided.
Other classifications include various ink varieties not listed above, special processes or similar products that are not widely known.

VOC content, prohibited solvents - halogenated hydrocarbons, prohibited solvents - 17 specific VOCs.
◉ Standard Content
(1) Ink products need to meet the VOC limits required by GB 38507-2020:
